I knew most of what was contained in this marathon, but to be honest, had no idea who AJ+ was, since I do not get my "news" from social media. Further, although I lived and worked in Qatar immediately following Desert Storm I in the early 90's, I had no idea they were now so repressive in their views. When I lived there, and worked for their government, they projected the image of being a tolerant and reasonable Muslim country, at least to my face. About the only thing they asked of me was that if I purchased alcohol from their state-owned outlet, I keep it covered until I got home, where it could be consumed. Their attitudes toward women did seem rather regressive. At any rate I learned something from this marathon on that score.
One wonders if they were supporting extremists at that time, and perhaps I was simply naive, or whether things fundamentally changed between my time there and now, given that they have had a different Emir since 2013. Any thoughts from anyone in a position to know?

I grew up in the 50’s and 60’s … the difference now … is like night and day. I have to watch news from ALL sources accross many countries to get to anything near the truth. I find out more about the US from other countries. That is ridiculous. What I end up with.. is that I need to look locally and actually SEE what is happening rather than believe anything I read or hear or.. depend on friends who live in other states and countries who SEE what is happening. I quit believing the media when Bush Jr. was president. They were so biased against him, although he deserved a lot of the crap they were throwing at him. It got worse with Obama. I could literally see things he was doing and hear the things he was saying and how wrong it was but the media praised everything he did. Then came Trump and I had to turn it off.
