Another good place to look for context is the Old Testament. When reading the Old Testament, particularly Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy, note the difference between moral laws and ceremonial laws. Ceremonial laws are laws that are given to Israel to distinguish Israel from the gentiles around them. Moral laws are laws God expects everyone, including gentiles and sojourners, to follow. Also note the overlap. If you find a command in the Old Testament that you think and say, hmm I do this. Ask yourself, its it moral or ceremonial? If its ceremonial, Paul clearly explains to us that these laws no longer apply in the New Covenant with Christ. Passover sacrifice for many years in remembrance of first Passover the father of a jewish household would slaughter a lamb and then the family would eat the lambs flesh. Jesus mentions this at the last supper, when he tells his apostles to eat His flesh in remembrance of Him, and that surely you have no life in you if you do not eat the flesh of man and drink His blood. Many jews hearing this stopped following Jesus because they understood exactly what tradition Jesus was referencing and that he was being literal when he took bread in His holy hands and instituted communion.
