<<@tomoates8568 says : I do not agree that only a theist can "justify" morality. If a theist is commanded of God to commit murder then it is not a sin because it was commanded of God. How does that make sense? To a theist there is only morality because God said so. Whatever God says is the right thing is the right thing, no ifs ands or buts. My belief is quite simple. I am an atheist. In my opinion morality is simply derived from our conscience, or our brains I suppose which is where we do our thinking and feeling and where the conscience comes from. I try to do good by others, and I try to live by a very simple metric for morality. Take any action and ask yourself, am I being kind? Am I being respectful? Am I being just? Rape is not kind, respectful, or just and therefore would never be considered a good thing. Personally I do not need a God to tell me what is right and what is wrong, nor do I need him to "justify" why I try to live a moral life. The meaning of life to me is not to follow God and try to make it to heaven, the purpose of life for me is to make life better in whatever way I know how for those around me>> <<@annemorency3317 says : Well explained 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I just love 😍 this channel ❤️💚🧡🩵💜>> <<@noco3126 says : Let me begin by saying I like Frank without needing to agree with Frank. Having said that, he is incorrect here. He is doing the thing that he is accusing Harris of: He asserts that Harris is "smuggling" moral code while Frank is attempting to smuggle Christian moral code into what can be known ontologically, repackaging it until he finds a way to make it fit. 1) Frank states that moral laws are not material. This is incorrect in the sense that morality has a direct impact on our physical being by shaping what and how something is understood, how things are evaluated, and responded to; therefore, ultimately, morality becomes a significant influence on the material world, which is predominately why it matters. 2)And, he is correct that evolution describes what survives, but in the evolutionary sense, this is what "ought" to survive. We can't separate these, and they require people to adjust to "what is" rather than the "belief in what should be". If Frank believes that what does exist is not a part of the "ought", then the implication is that God/nature made a mistake.>> <<@ApplesAndOranges1 says : Well grooming in America is already being considered good>> <<@KingAries85 says : To answer the title yea it’s called the Bible smh these people amaze me how they bash others while not realizing they support the exact same thing>> <<@followerofchrist2627 says : Thank you for your insight Frank God bless you>> <<@Powerful9315 says : this is awesome!!>> <<@zeddicuszorrander3599 says : The issues Turek mentions are issues people have always struggled with, but Turek doesn't solve them. He starts where we agree-humans are valuable, and human flourishing is good. If human flourishing is good, why did God wipe out the world in a flood? Why did God command Israel to wipe out various people? Are their lives less valuable? He may have an "easy" answer to these questions, but so do the atheists. He also wants to say an atheist worldview may one-day say rape is good, while ignoring that God said, "Take the virgins for yourselves." (Num 31)>> <<@TullMaister says : This is cap. Christians for centuries have done things that would be immoral today. The Spanish Inquisition, the crusades, the Salem with trails. This applies to most other religions, and most of the time they justify it because of their religion. First of all, evolution to repopulate doesn’t mean rape. Of course sexual desire and wanting of power over someone (more often the case) is stemmed from a complex human brain. In evolution to produce successful children you must have two party’s that want what an individual has got. Over time this has changed and sexuality has become more abstract than breeding. Majority of us don’t need kids to help us survive or their isn’t such a demand to continue on the genetic line. On the subject of morality, no it isn’t purely genetics and it isn’t purely spirituality. Most moral questions are backwards to evolution, as we as a human race find more common ground as one than as an individual or group. However you don’t need spiritual guidance to find morality. As stated above, morality and religion is quite questionable.>> <<@badideass says : Atheism is the most logical and reasonable position to hold as no theist has ever met their burden of proof>> <<@peacake1826 says : Not sure where the story of "Stalin shaking his fist at heaven" came from. Should we keep doing this? Did religion evolve too? Did the never changing god change his moral code so we don't have to commit animal sacrifice? What if god changes his mind and makes rape ok just like we don't have to kill 1000 bulls nowadays in his name? Was god ok with Lot's daughters making their father drink too much wine so they can sleep with him? Wasn't this rape and incest? How can we even speak of religious morality if after a life of not obeying the 10 commandments one soul can go to heaven after truly repenting and believing in Jesus? Mr. Turek, you need to stop what you are doing and find a real job! Moral laws are very material. Just as you can see wolves form packs and taking care of their young ones, while defending their territory and chasing away the ones that do not follow the leadership of the alpha, you can see these patterns in chimps and also in humans. Certain types of behavior are transcending generations to help species survive. You can see this even in ants and bees. It's only normal for humans to know what's right and what's wrong, to fight an oppressor and take care of the next generation... without holy books and without even a written language because we are animals in our instincts of survival and societal habits. Morality is just a human construct. Nothing more.>> <<@hamster4618 says : A worldview that supports rp? Christianity. OT bible only objects to the rp of a betrothed girl/women, and then only if it takes place in a field. In all other circumstances women are fckd, either killed for not adequately yelling out when the guy held a knife at their throat when engaged but rpd in the village. Or sold to their rpst to be rpd every single day. Because indeed, spousal rp isn't mentioned either as both partners are not allowed to say "no". Under the influence of Christianity and colonialism, spousal rp has been allowed for central upon centuries. Spousal rp only became a criminal offence in the last couple of decades because feminists fought for it to be a criminal offence.>> <<@hamster4618 says : Most nazi's were Christians, about 97% of the German population was Christian. Whenever u mention those strong words peoples emotion goes up an logic goes down . Don’t accept his smart choice of words as ACTUAL evidence to support “ Moral Law “ . Around the 70s “ martial rape “ didn’t exist. If the husband raped the wife , it wasn’t considered rape In the eyes of the law . Not until the early 90s all 50 states changed it . You’re literally claiming YOU can’t understand what’s right and wrong. You just follow a list. So, you have the urge to rape, but don’t because it’s on the list. And, rape is hardly on that list. Not on the 10 C’s and the requirement of rape is merely marrying the victim. So, it’s moral to rape a virgin as long as your intention is marriage. Moreover, what isn’t ok, really, when scapegoating accountability onto Jesus is the only necessity for any sin? What about crimes today? Bigamy is objectively moral, genocide is objectively moral, slavery is objectively moral. Moreover #2, God is the omnipotent creator. He can’t be omnipotent and need anything and must know everything, so the buck stops with him for any free will act or act of Satan.
