<<@DanielFelix-glitch says : They say it should take 1 to 3 years untill they start composting>> <<@lihtan says : A much bigger environmental issue is the amount of e-waste that gets generated. An easy way to reduce our e-waste is to prevent our electronics from getting damaged in the first place. My first smartphone that I got 13 years ago is still in mint condition (other than the battery barely holding a charge). I credit this to the decision to go with a sturdy dual layer Otterbox phone case made from non-degradable polycarbonate and silicone. Even when the plastic became cracked, I made a video tutorial on how to repair it, just so I wouldn't have to replace it. I recently got a refurbished Pixel phone. Pela came up when I was researching options for a case. I ultimately decided not to go with them, as I'm not entirely convinced it'll truly offer the protection I need for a phone. I've been on job sites where I need to keep my phone within reach so I can be in contact with my crew. It'll be sitting on my toolbox, while metal shavings are raining down on it from above.>> <<@docification94 says : Cmon dude if you're going to target inaccurate claims, at least dont make inaccurate ones yourself. Burying is not composting. Composting is composting>> <<@lucisferre6361 says : Buy yourself a Poetic brand 2 piece case. Idk what the biodegradability is, nor do I really care since my most recent one has kept me using the same undamaged phone since mid 2021, after countless inadvertent floor interfaces after being dropped (tile, linoleum, terrazzo, marble, concrete and asphalt, at the least) it even came out unscathed after jumping ship from my scissor lift at about 12' up or so. They make an amazing product and mine was only 1/3rd of the Pela pricetag.>> <<@whitneymouse says : Well, I bought the case before I saw this 😂 thankfully I got it during a BOGO deal so it was like $30 a case instead of $60 for just the one. But damn. Really thought it was cool that it was compostable.>> <<@KYSMO says : Still relevant>> <<@faustusliviuspraetextatus6773 says : your spectometer thingy is the coolest thing ever.>> <<@enoughstufflauren says : I fell into the trap of these phones, so I bought some pela cases. I don't regret my decision because back then I didn't do any research but I think from now on I am just not even going to buy new phone cases. If you need something, try to find it used. I have a bio phone case, it's literally falling apart so I need a new one but I think I am just going to get a used one on vinted. Plastic or maybe recycled plastic, at least it will last. But it just makes me so sad that even things that should be good, aren't. They really trap us and take our money. But I totally agree with @thecorship in that we should just not buy things. Full stop.>> <<@murder.simulator says : I'll never understand why people think that mixing feces and eating what grows out of it is a good idea. You can catch more than one disease that way>> <<@lateformyownbirth says : Urgh, I absolutely despise the conflation of plastic reduction and carbon reduction. I get that they can be related, but we didn’t stop using plastic bags and straws because of carbon, we did it because wanted less plastic around.>> <<@donwald3436 says : Legend has it, to this very day, Phil is walking around smelling his phone case..... lol>> <<@donwald3436 says : 99% of oil is "made from plants" too it just takes a while to process lol.>> <<@VeganLinked says : I was just curious if these phone cases are BPA free and that brought me to something completely different and ultimately this kick ass video.>> <<@BiggDaddysCheese says : I don't understand these people. If you wanna be eco friendly pick up some grabage ,save something you were gonna throw away, or walk to work sometimes. But those aren't popular on social media i guess>> <<@martinschlegel1823 says : I love a good debunking video, especially if it isn’t again on Elon Musk (not that there is no bullshit to debunk about him, but for the moment I’ve grown kinda bored of his bullshit and people debunking him). Bring us more.>> <<@vestrielle says : I have Pela cases you can have if you still need them for your experiment.>> <<@F3udF1st says : We want the conclusion to this!>> <<@ModernSunlight says : is there a couple minute summary of pela vs. whatever? dude try watching the old school myth busters and using their style a little more. This snarky stuff is way too difficult to watch for me.>> <<@4dirt2racer0 says : around 4:14 the dirt n twigs n stuff were all moved around n different in every shot of the "case degrading" it seems like it doesnt do that as much in other actual time lapse..>> <<@Jimmy_Blake says : You know what does help the environment? Being poor, shout out to all the poor folks who wouldn’t even consider buying this.>> <<@7errafirma says : I wonder where Thunderfoot thinks John Oliver's sketchy at. I don't like the format of rapid fire lame jokes on John Oliver's show, but he's politically, morally and socially on the right side of issues from what I've watched so far.>> <<@SpartanJoe193 says : To answer the opening question: make shit more repairable>> <<@T3hZiggy says : Terribly unfortunate typo in you video at 7:07 should probably be white powder>> <<@hollychicker says : Have you ever stopped to think of those who may not want to be exposed to chemicals due to health reasons. I challenge you to fight that one.>> <<@Tommy-re1rz says : Can you do a video on Nimble ? I just found your channel and honestly I'm blown away. I feel like I always was skeptical buying from Pela but all the "eco friendly" influencers I was learning from backed it so much I just went with it. Nimble has their 'phone cases from recycled CDs' line that I'm now curious about legitimacy wise ._. I appreciate you for the videos you make and the light you shed>> <<@Davionious says : The one issue I have is that you can dent Climate Change with something as small as a phone case. When all the other small things and larger things also dent climate change.>> <<@dovesr0478 says : It absolutely blows my mind how much money upper middle class white people will spend on asinine products in the name of being eco friendly>> <<@skykitchen867 says : LOL!>> <<@Technobitsarchive says : So what you’re telling me is that getting filthy rich is eco friendly>> <<@numerounotg says : Used to identify white powers 😂😂😂 7:05>> <<@baconberries8097 says : I kinda just wish phones didn't need cases at all, but when phones literally have glass on the backside, it's basically unavoidable. I get that there are reasons besides aesthetics that they're made of glass, like wireless charging, but I'd rather have just a nice looking phone that I don't have to cover with a case over the newest cameras, processors, qi charging, etc. And those clear acryllic cases always get nasty and yellow with your hand oils eventually. They're stupid and i hate them.>> <<@johngilligan8059 says : I feel the idea is in the right place but people are so misinformed. The fact of the matter is phone cases will continue to be made and bought especially since phones are so expensive now.>> <<@jacobmars1902 says : ""we want to be Eco-friendly" *proceeds to drive a 1 ton hunk of metal everywhere instead of taking any other mode of transport*>> <<@miguelguerreiro5280 says : the way she says "PELA" sounds like penis in portuguese>> <<@thexanderthemander says : I agree its a scam. But there are a couple notes about the inaccuracies of your analysis. The carbon footprint of the phone case is more than just the mass of carbon in the case. Also composting doesnt release all of the carbon into the atmosphere, it adds a significant amount into the soil as bioavailable matter so composting something (that actually composts) is better than burning it.>> <<@ion_X says : Nice guilt trip attempt scummy "eco" companies: "caused by you and me"; No, literally, most private consumers have almost negligible impact, but rather it's the irresponsible industries, such as themselves, who are the ones that are creating all of it, hoping that we would take it all up take take and absolve them of their responsibilities for ourselves, while they greedily scummily pollute (Even with the agricultural and meat eating; I personally have learned to have self control and discipline, and use and consume responsibly. So even with being a meat consumer, and if I were to choose and have the option to drive EU regulation internal combustion engine a/o hybrid cars for the rest of my life; I would likely still produce less for my personal use than vast majority of the self proclaimed eco conscious but less responsible with more needless and mindless consumptions when it comes to on many other to every thing else, would end up producing, far over, in compensation, despite their "vegan diets" and "electric cars" and so on "easy" "cheap" trends) Sometimes it's just simply about proportions; cost and benefits ratio, and diminishing returns>> <<@stana6253 says : Would be really nice eye opener if you compared impact of a phone case or any other “environmental” product to people stressing and, thus, consuming more oxygen and exhaling more carbon dioxide. Basically, stress and purchase “indulgences” or chill out for an hour a day and save the planet.>> <<@slenderpugcp2067 says : Someone got me one of these cases on sale for my phone, and it was unfortunately not worth it. The case doesn't even fit the phone nicely. It's too bendable so the phone doesn't feel secure especially around the buttons and every corner. I don't wanna use it because it feels like crap and will not actually hold my phone like a real case>> <<@matija.sajatovic says : i quite like the designs of pela and we ususaly buy the cases when they are on a sale 1+1 and i find some discounts so i pay just around 10 dollars which in my opinion is ok bc here the 100% plastic ones cost the same so this is like a bit more enviroment freiendly option (ps we are going to put our old phone cases in the compost and see how long they take to decompose)>> <<@emmafrostfantastic says : I was considering buying one for my new phone, thank you for the debunk !>> <<@clippyremembers says : Alot of cases and screen protectors are also made from tpu which decomposes in 4-5 years>> <<@bustosricky says : Did you ever dig up the phone case?>> <<@AnthonyBolognese710 says : “That’s a lot of science” No that’s a lot of stupidity. Im stealing that>> <<@AnthonyBolognese710 says : For $60 I could buy 10 plants that produce vegetables and ACTUALLY contribute to the global warming solution.>> <<@Raptorman0909 says : Man, the Pela people must LOVE Thunderf00t....>> <<@JesseGilbride says : I'm fairly sure we shouldn't be burning plastics (as suggested at 20:18) unless maybe it's (regulated) industrial incineration that can capture and process the toxins created (such as dioxin and others), but even those systems can leave nasty residue in the "bottom ash", which needs to be properly taken care of. Needless to say, we shouldn't be burning plastics ourselves.>> <<@bilobolygregsmith270 says : I'm sure I'm late to the part, but did you mean "white powders" instead of "white powers">> <<@OpiatesAndTits says : 7:06 “cute fact used to identify ‘white powers’ and explosives” You should really keep white power separate from explosives - I hear the results from past experiments haven’t been great>> <<@stygianrenegade says : Saying "compostable" as two words is triggering...>> <<@c0r5e says : Most woke phone case>>
