Cables are now starting show the charge and data speeds on the plug. i.e "18W 5 Gbps" for a standard USB-A former 3.0 cable, or "240W 40 Gbbs D" for a USB-4 cable with display support. I have seen the same on brand new motherboards.

TL;DW: USB started out with two connector types: USB-A for computers and mice, and USB-B for printers. Later they came out with mini-USB connectors and USB-3, which used high-speed blue USB-A connectors. Everything they came out with after mini-USB and before USB-C was misguided, obsolete garbage. After way too much bullshit, they came up with USB-C, which actually works as advertised, end of story.

My key takeaway is this: humans want smaller USBs (to save space in their devices) with bigger bandwidths. Hence the not so universal Universal Serial Bus

Did you know that the USB 3 version is called USB 3.2 Gen 1 today not 3.1 Gen 1? The table on the video is slightly wrong or outdated. Also the Wikipedia article on USB has a nifty SVG graphic explaning the retcons, lol, your video is handy however if one is no the reading type, which many aren't nowadays sadly! Aso on the USB hardware article on Wikipedia there's even a nifty colors table!

Same winth my ipad and iphone lightning connector, almost same size contacts. You cant use as much of them to be enough to handle these ampers.

Its so interesting that we once thought host and component plugs had to be different. Like for no reason at all we couldnt have a universal reversible cable that could plug into both. Its just odd that thats how we started from. I woulda been so much simpler to just make usb-a to usb-a. A and B are so similar in size
