Assange deserves amnesty for his crimes, the ones he committed are if any of a hacking nature, to a way more limited effect than his alleged "treason", which is publishing which is not a crime. He did not procure most of the information that he has published through Wikileaks. Assange had no clearance, or means to obtain the War related documents that raised most of the interest in the website, and interest of the US pentagon. Publishing is not a crime, better yet, sourcing information from anonymous sources is entirely legal. The means you have to go through to obtain information can be illegal, the clearance violation which the US alleges Assange committed is through aiding an at the time Military analyst, without communication. The information procured through the violation of clearance was not committed by Assange, there was no exchange of information. If the US wants to make the case that Wikileaks is incentivizing to upload sensitive information to it as a website for guaranteed publication, they are making a LONG list of enemies, within the government as well as the entire press. Fencing stolen goods is a crime as well, however the fencer is not struck with a charge for every stolen item they procured and then proceeded to sell, or charged for every transaction even! 175 years of prison for the crime of publishing whilst child-trafficking will never put you away for the rest of your life. If not for others, inspiration to burn down the country before punishing Assange in this manner I predict likely. Assange could have served 5 ~ 10 years for hacking, before they stunted his life by aiming for his likelihood itself, now, he deserves time returned to him, which is impossible. There's no apology that makes up for what has been done so no compromise is acceptable. Espionage requires governmental clearance to be an argument, you can pick whichever president you like but you take Assange and you will see the internet turn on a country like never before, I know plenty of people with vigour and I feel it too. When you log in anywhere, you give the service the real password again, that password you just signed in with is scrambled (turned into a hash) once again and then the two are compared, if the hashes match, the passwords also match, otherwise they don't and your login had failed. Cracking a hashed password like that requires you to generate thousands or even in some case billions of different passwords, hashing them all and them comparing these hashes against the one you're trying to crack.
