I just got a new prebuilt. It had a 550 Watt PSU. My old build from 2023 has a 750 Watt one I bought back then. For furture upgradeability, I decided to swap them. An hour later, I am exhausted, my right hand is bloodied up and my VRAM cover is also covered in blood. Whoever designed this crap, ought to be taken to the Gulags, given 12 years of hard labor before being taken behind a shed and… dispensed with! PCs still use this useless outdated tech with a million different cables and small fragile connectors in har to reach places. It’s ridiculous. Thanks for the video. I don’t know if I connected the cables correctly because I don’t have an eletron microscope to read the miniscule letter on the MB!

I find these Front Panel Headers very straight forward. And in MOST cases, the pinouts are silkscreened directly on to the motherboard.

I’m just building my 1st PC in 20 years and I’m astonished at how little has changed in all that time. I checked out this video to update myself and I find that almost everything is the same (Except: The CI and TPM connectors which are new to me.) Ant they STILL haven’t standardised the Front Panel connections!!!

Using a paper clip or pen to short the two power switch pins has helped me boot up PCs in dire times. If I were more social, I’m sure this trick would be a hit at parties. Truly exciting.

Polarity does not matter (for the power and reset button). Thank you for that piece of information; my ASUS motherboard and/or Fractal Design case should have mentioned that.

When the manual says positive/negative, and the motherboard says negative/positive, then the manufacturer states we except no responsibility for errors in manual.

<<@TheEuronaut

I'm doing it since 1988. I'm not afraid doing it, but I ALWAYS have to consult the manual for the correct pin layout. Furthermore: a speaker actually HAS a polarity, but for the use case of just beeping, it simply doesn't matter if the menbrance swings to the wrong direction. I wouldn't do that for hifi though.

I'll be damned, I learned something new, that the power and reset switches don't have a polarity so plugging them in either direction will work.

However this is a problem. Putting an older motherboard that doesn't have that 10-1 JFP1 plugin. The MOBO I am trying to install a 20-8 pin layout and I can't connect with out breaking up the connector pins. How does one go about fixing this connection issue?

This video is a public service thank you. I have salvaged a motherboard from an OEM PC and the board does not have the print out for the front panel and since it is an OEM build no motherboard manual seems to exist either! But now I know polaritiy doesnt matter for power so hopefully i can just trial and error without too much fuss and everything should be okay.
