All religions place emphasis on you: what can you do to EARN salvation. We as humans, oh, we love to earn things, right? We also love to be narcissists. This is further emphasized in the world view of individualism, which is Narcissism 2: Electric Boogaloo. Even with New Age Paganism and New Age Philosophy, the emphasis has always been about you. It itches your ear, and makes you feel good: they're nice religions. The gods? Oh, they're just there. But Christianity? Christianity tells you right in your face that you are a wicked sinner. Did you lie? You're going to Hell. Looked at someone with lust? Hell. Hate someone? Hell. Stole something? Hell. Blasphemed? Hell. Well, that's very straight forward, every other religion has that, what of it? Well, all other religions teach that you can redeem yourself if you do good works, righteous work and the such. But Christianity blatantly tells you that your good works are dirty rags: they're useless. You cannot dig yourself out by doing good works, you just wrecked your WHOLE tower to reach Heaven. Well, okay, Christianity states that you are a filthy, wicked sinner, and that you cannot redeem yourself by working in your own inequity: your own lawlessness. Sounds pretty bleak, right? Would be, but unlike other gods, who are just there, being humans with superpowers, God actually comes down, AS A MAN, just like me and you, and lives with us. He ate, He drank, He slept, even felt emotions, just like us. Yet, despite that, He was sinless: He was Perfect. The ONLY Begotten Son of God. And yet, despite that: the holier-than-thou people arrested Him and handed Him over to the Romans, in which He was beaten, tortured, humiliated, and forced to carry a heavy cross. Yet, even when crucified, and being mocked, Jesus proclaims, "Father, Father, forgive them. They know not what they do." And while crucified, He took on the world's sins, and died. And on the third day, He ROSE from the Dead. He defeated Death, and saves US from our own inequity. In Christianity: salvation is not a reward to earn, but a gift to receive. When you accept Christ as your Savior, you can rest easy. My best friends, throughout life turned out to be very toxic with strong narcissistic traits, destroying me, my reputation & future. I became addicted to drugs, strong drugs, much alcohol, much flesh & desire. My world was crumbling, i was busy destroying myself & others. Jesus never stopped chasing me though, never left me, he kept me safe from times when i was in grave danger, even during those times i somehow knew someone/thing had intervened. So one day approx 12yrs ago, after another shame filled binge, i stood before him (jesus) & placed my life before him, challenging him to fix it as he promises in the bible, if i put my full trust in him to do so. If you want my addictions Lord, then take them, along with the want, the habits & the craving, you know i am weak. If you want to be lord of my house then rebuild my broken marriage & relationship with my children, because i am lost in emotions about it all. If i am to trust you Jesus, restore those years lost to moth & rust, because i have so many good things i need to share with the world. If you care for my friendships, help me break away from these toxic people & give me someone who i can trust because i cannot do this alone. The next day, was the first day of my new life. The freedom & lightness in my spirit was unmistakable, the memories of deep hurt, the physical memories & habits, the dark shadows that followed me... gone, all gone. I did nothing except hand it all over in the trust that Jesus was true to his word. Of course i had many bridges to rebuild & hard conversations & to build my reputation/trust back over time with people who matter. It is the daily time spent with Christ, the talking, the quiet walking, the listening, the trusting, As Jesus leans into us first, we must respond in kind & lean into him. Daily, with a thankful, praising heart, watch as your life blossoms as grows while your roots dig down & into him. No one said life was supposed to be easy, it still isn't yet a life without Jesus guiding it is extra difficult with many more lonely, unfulfilling obstacles in the way. Place your Hope in Christ, build you Faith in him. Rely on your heavenly Father who is the one who actually made you, chose you, positioned you.
