Almost every negative consequence that’s resulted by heightened phone usage has hit me. But because of it’s double-edged sword, it’s revealed so many positive, useful, fundamental things I would not have otherwise seen that’s been helping me crawl out of my own mess. The internet is very contradicting in that way. Everything expands and accelerates when you’re online, and we’re not adept to it. Too much change and progress has been made in such a short amount of time. In terms of how I feel around my generation and the future, I’m not as pessimistic as some people are saying online. I don’t think our generation is going to completely miss out on fundamental human experiences. It will just be delayed for better and for worse, like what was said. More crucially, I feel that a renaissance is among us. The technological and larger cultural stagnation that we’re facing right now seems prime for it. I’ve been feeling weary and irritated over technology the past couple of years, especially last year and if I’m feeling it, then my peers are too. I may be biased as I’m going through extreme transformation at the moment, but I don’t think I’m alone in this sentiment. I am 42 a mother of a 24 and 16 yr old and a youth leader for middle and HS students. I became a youth leader because of the disconnect i saw in our youth after Covid, heartbreaking! Connecting with these kids and hearing their perception on society and reality is shocking, they are completely disconnected with the world surrounding them and even worse they're emotionally struggling because no one is having connected face to face conversations with them. Im begging a young adults group in my home after seeing what our 18 to 25 yr old population is going through, most of these kids remember a world before social media became to only form of societal connection, back when kids still played outside and neighbors knew eachother, these kids are suffering the worse from what ive seen. They remember the past and are mourning its loss in a time of their young adult lives where young adults generationally historically have needed this guidance and direction the most. Id love your feedback on now you or anyone else feels is the best way to step into this hosting this group in my home, the hope is to collaborate with them on a mission their passionate about, the #1 goal being reconnecting and engaging with the world surrounding them and pulling in as many others as we can to share in these experiences.
