I grew up in the Episcopal Church, though was not saved until I was age 29 (after having spent 10 years with no faith). Now I attend the same Episcopal Church I grew up in, although during my path I have attended other churches - nondenominational, evangelical and charismatic. When I returned with my family to the town I grew up in, I noticed there are a mix of Episcopal priests - a large portion (but not all) who don't seem to adhere to the Christianity that the Bible describes. It is an unusual Episcopal sermon where some core Biblical teaching is not preached against.

"Preach the truth". By this I assume you mean God's word as claimed in the Bible. There is no proof of a God, let alone that He has any care for us. the Bible does not condemn slavery or the stoning of gays. Jesus encouraged people to abandon their responsibilities to follow him. I can agree with much of his teachings but, the son of god? We are slowly loosening the chains of religion.

In John 6, Jesus fed the 5000. The very next day the people came out because they wanted another free meal. They were following Jesus for the wrong reason. Jesus preached a “truth” sermon that he is the bread of life and we must feed on him. Verse 63 says, “The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” This was such a difficult sermon to preach and for the hearers to hear that verse 66 says, “After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.” Jesus wanted to make the disciples (church) as pure as it can be, not as big as it can be. Jesus wanted people to come to God on His terms. Jesus wants truly repentant, true worshippers of God coming for the right reasons. And so should each one of his followers be desiring the same attitude. Keep preaching the truth, no matter what or when.

This video immediately made me think of ***** ****** (a former pastor of ours who first spent many yrs in the jungle bringing them the gospel then came back and built a gospel sharing church) in his latter days when he wouldn't speak the truth, teach the gospel, or deal with the people in the congregation who were openly living in sin. His reasoning when I asked him about it? He admitted to me that he didn't want to offend anyone. He had grown to looove his cushy hideaway/office and his paycheck and didn't want to do anything to rock the boat. His last word to me in that conversation was, "If you want to go share the gospel then go for it, but leave me out of it." Many of us left over that admission.

I just left an SBC church in Jan 2022 because I noticed they were getting "light" in the tank. Almost no preaching on sin the last 2 to 3 years. Women in mini skirts up to their privates in the service on stage singing, women getting active in leadership, no talking about porn (an infection in our church), no talking about gender issues, sexual sin, abortion, and supporting CRT?!? 😳 They called it politics now. They had just enough Jesus in the sermons to still be identified as a quasi-church. When I questioned the leadership about it I found out it was far worse then I thought. The 3 pastors were flaming Liberals who support the Left. You cannot vote for the Devil on Tues and preach in the pulpit on Sun. I told them to remove my name from membership immediately. It was sad to leave after 6¹/² years. I love the people but I will not be part of a luke warm ministry as corrupt as any local bar. Thank God I found a church in 2 weeks that preaches God's Word hot.

What I hear “true children of God” screaming for is to be fed the word, unadulterated. I hear real Christians everywhere saying, “I just wish I could find a church where I can really be fed the Bible.” Christianity in America has simply become “big business” and is no longer about “Our Father’s business.” The modern church is in a mess, and it’s getting worse. Biblical Christianity is unpopular, and popular Christianity is unbiblical. Real Christians are tired of churches with dark chapels, rock bands, fog machines, light shows, entertainment, celebrity want-to-be “pastors” delivering therapeutic, motivational speeches rooted in psychology, with one twisted Bible verse used as a footnote. It’s just like the great Charles Spurgeon said, “The church is now entertaining goats instead of feeding the sheep.”

One pastor I had wanted to try some special program to get more people to come to the church. I told him (in private) "Just preach the Truth. When people find out where the food is, they will flock here." He didn't listen to me. He retired, I went to college and we went through other pastors. Then I came back and the church covered 5 campuses, with a membership of over 2,000. Only instead of preaching the Truth, they decided to be a seeker friendly church. Sermons may be nice, but the ability to interact with God and each other wasn't there. This one pastor told his assistant pastor not to wear ties. It's sad because the church building where they used to meet is now underneath a parking lot.

Your mockery of Christians doesn't solve anything, it may give you more *rights* in your subjective morality but the real flock will remain. You want us to keep our hateful beliefs *Christianity* in our homes whiles you can have the rights to hound us wherever. To see atheists relentlessly hounding a diminishing Christianity, even on the smallest Christian channels you will see their venom. How amazing. Here is a list of sermon topics that don’t seem political to me: The Bible When and how did the Bible originate? When, where and by whom have those original manuscripts been translated into what languages? Sin What are some of the ways sin is defined? What are some of the teachings about the origin of sin? What is redemption? How many gods are worshiped around the world? In the Bible, the word, “god” is sometimes capitalized, sometimes not. Why? Who is Jesus? What is the meaning of the word, “messiah”? What did Jesus say about false messiahs? How did Jesus instruct his followers so as to minimize the danger of following false messiahs? What are some of the ways Jesus is unique among religious leaders? Is it possible to have a “relationship” with Jesus? What is faith? What is the difference between faith and presumption? What is repentance? What is penitence? What is confession? What is conversion or the new birth? How are humans reconciled to God? What is justification? What is sanctification? What is glorification? What is the role of obedience in the Christian life? What did Jesus do while he was on Earth? Relationship with “sinners” Parables Miracles Prophecies Teachings What prophecies did Jesus fulfill? Who were the priests, scribes, Pharisees and Sadducees in Juda two thousand years ago? What motivated Judas to “betray” Jesus? What motivated the religious leaders to demand that Jesus be crucified? What motivated the Pilate to order the crucifixion of Jesus? What precautions were taken to prevent the followers of Jesus from taking his body and claiming he had been resurrected? Was Jesus resurrected on the third day? Or was he resurrected three days after he died? (The difference between inclusive and exclusive reckoning.) The Holy Spirit Who or what is the Holy Spirit? What is baptism in the Holy Spirit? Prophecy What are some of the purposes of prophecy? Did King Nebuchadnezzar have a prophetic dream? How was it interpreted? What is the difference between the kingdom of grace and the kingdom of glory? Have some Bible prophecies already been fulfilled? What is God’s judgment? What is the atonement? Is there a sense in which the atonement has already been supplied? Is there a sense in which the atonement is being applied right now? Is there a sense in which the culmination of the atonement is yet future? What are some of the ways “Babylon” has been identified? What is the church? Were there patriarchs and prophets who had faith in a coming Messiah even before Jesus was born? Who or what is Satan? The second coming of Jesus What are some of the methods that have been employed for interpreting the prophecies of the Bible? Advantages and disadvantages? Who was first called, “Israel”? What or who was Israel after the death of Jacob and before the Exodus? What or who was Israel after the Exodus and before the crowning of King Saul? What or who was Israel after the division of the kingdom (after the death of Solomon)? Who or what was the true Israel after the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple in 70 A.D? Who will inherit what was promised to Abraham? Were some of the “restoration” prophecies fulfilled in the sixth century B.C. after the Babylonian captivity? Can some of the prophecies be understood as referring to a future restoration of the Kingdom? What are some of the ways those restoration prophecies have been interpreted? What is the purpose of the second coming of Jesus? i.e. What will he do when he returns? Did Jesus say John the baptist was Elijah? What did John say about that? Is that a contradiction? If not, how is it explained? The law of God What is the law of God? Are there some aspects of the law of God that are perpetual? Are there some aspects of the law of God that are not perpetual? If so, what are some of the ways people have tried to make that distinction? What are the two covenants mentioned in Hebrews 8? The weekly sabbath What did the Lord create on each of the first six days of creation week? If the Lord created life on this planet in six days, why does the week have seven days? When the Lord provided manna in the wilderness, how did the people know when to collect a “double portion”? Did the miracle of the manna begin before or after the Lord spoke the Decalogue at Sinai. Which day of the week do observant Hebrews rest in the twenty-first century and why? On which day of the week was Jesus resurrected? Who is described in the Bible as resting on the day Jesus was in the tomb and on the basis of which commandment? How careful were the Mayflower pilgrims about resting on Sunday and why did they avoid even cooking or baking anything on Sunday? If someone thinks one or more of the above subjects are political, please explain what the political implications are.

I also agree with the comment on tax exemption. In UK a church can claim back tax on giving. I would rather see us not doing that. God doesn’t need government money or avenue of control or the idea that other people are supporting the church. We should be net givers to our community, as the early missionaries were and transformed culture from fighting and stealing to teaching and healing.

"Usually" if Pastors are loved by their Church and Community they are preaching a Nice Love, Faith and Grace Gospel only. I used to Attend a Church here in SoCal with Pastor Jack Hibbs. I ultimately had to leave because he never preached the importance of following God's Laws, Repentance and conviction of Sin. It was more just Believe and have faith in Jesus and you will be in Heaven type of messages. He has close to 500k followers on YouTube and thousands who attend his church and follow him and not Jesus. It's very disturbing because people are being brainwashed into Hell.
