Heiser used his liberal education and imported the "divine council" idea into his evangelical views, and has duped the evangelical world into accepting liberal theology cloaked in evangelical garb. Even the whole speculation about Psalm 91 is a joke. He speculates why satan used Psalm 91, by ignoring the immediate context of Matthew 4. The connection between Canaanite deities and this Psalm is a gross stretch by Heiser. There was real pestilence during the time of the Psalm, and real arrows that people were actually concerned about. Linking these things to Canaanite deities is sheer speculation pretending to be scholarship. Since the majority of believers are lost and deceived they of course will not believe that this blessed life is possible and so they are proving how they are unbelieving children of the devil. When I confront these lost souls with their lies they of course believe that I am filled with hate since in their ignorant mind they equate love as acceptance and they do not like to have their wicked souls exposed. So I will start this comment with a list of scriptures that these deceived believers will often twist to try and justify why they can still sin and they are I John 1:8-10, 1 John 2:1-2, Romans 3:10, 3:23 and 7. Now where their sicknesses are concerned the believers who are deceived will twist what is being related in John 9:1-3, 2 Corinthians 12:7-10, 1 Timothy 5:23, 2 Timothy 4:20, Galatians 4:13, Philippians 2:25-26, Acts 9:36-43 and Exodus 4:11. Sometimes these deceived believers will even use Job and others from the Old Covenant and when they do that nonsense they clearly reveal just how ignorant they certainly are since they are exposing how they do not understand the difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. Everyone is born in sin and this of course would have included anyone who lived under the Old Covenant. So anyone who lived under the Old Covenant could never overcome their sins since there was no forgiveness of sins because Jesus had not arrived yet. So if you are someone who is referencing any of these above scriptures to justify your sin and your sicknesses then you certainly are proving how you are a lost and deceived soul that the devil has claimed. Realize that there are two different types of believers in this world. There are those who possess the wisdom of God and they are living the overcoming life that Jesus and His disciples did and there are those who are deceived and who still live in sin, deception and sickness just as the Pharisees did. Sadly, more then 95% of believers fall into the Pharisee camp. So even though countless believers like to claim that they have read the Bible it is very obvious that the majority of them have no idea what scripture is even relating. This is why scripture relates that only a few will be saved since most believers are completely lost and deceived in their beliefs and it is probably because they have only read parts of the Bible or maybe the entire book just once or twice. What is truly sad is that the vast majority of believers can still sin and they can still get sick and they have no idea what that even means or what it is proving. They clearly do not understand that sin and sickness is strictly of the devil and it can only be found in those who are still living by the desires of their sinful flesh. Sin and sickness certainly cannot be found in anyone who truly possesses the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ and who has allowed God’s Holy Spirit to guide them in their lives. The apostles were our examples of the overcoming life that is available to someone who is a true believer of Jesus Christ and this is where the huge deception begins since many are foolishly believing that the apostles never learned how to stop sinning. Over and over I am confronted by misguided souls who foolishly believe that scripture is relating that Paul, Peter and the other apostles were believers who continued to sin and these people have no idea how they are proving that they are just unbelievers who do not possess the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ. Scripture relates how we are all born in sin and that Jesus was the only person who was born without sin and that He lived His entire life without sinning. But scripture certainly is not relating that we can never stop sinning and it is actually stating the exact opposite of that utter nonsense. Scripture relates how we need to learn how to overcome our sins by being sanctified in truth through the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ and this is what occurred in the life of the apostles. They were sinners who allowed their Lord and Savior to teach their sinful souls how to overcome their sins by living through the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ. Jesus revealed this blessing to us in His prayer for His disciples that is being related in John 17:6:23. Now scripture also relates that God does not hear the prayers of sinners and what most foolish people certainly do not understand is that Peter, Paul and the other apostles could never have done the healing miracles that they did if they were still sinners themselves and God was not listening to their prayers. “Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.” ‭‭John‬ ‭9:31‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ “For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil.” ‭‭I Peter‬ ‭3:12‬ ‭NKJV‬ Jesus also related that He did not come to call on the righteous and this is because a righteous person is someone who does not sin. Jesus stated that He came to call sinners to repentance which meant to never sin ever again. Why? Because a sinner is an unrighteous person who does wicked things in the eyes of God and scripture clearly relates that an unrighteous person will not inherit the kingdom of God. So there is no possible way that the apostles could have ever kept on sinning and then perform the healing miracles that they did. So anyone who foolishly believes that they can never stop sinning is certainly proving that they are being deceived by a demon spirit and they clearly are not being guided by the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ. “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭5:32‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ “For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:20‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.” ‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭6:9-10‬ ‭NKJV Jesus did not sin nor did Jesus ever get sick and if you are someone who is living through His Holy Spirit and you are allowing the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ to guide you in your life then it is impossible for you to sin or to get sick as well. Anyone who is truly living with the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ possess the same Spirit and power that raised Jesus from the dead and anyone who claims that they can never stop sinning is certainly proving that they do not possess the Holy Spirit. They are proving they are just an unbeliever since they are revealing how their wicked soul will not believe that possessing the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ can keep their lost and deceived soul from sinning or from ever getting sick. “I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1:19-20‬ ‭NLT‬‬ Lastly, scripture clearly relates that anyone who sins belongs to the devil and that anyone who is born of God cannot and does not sin and there are no scriptures that ever relate that a sinner belongs to God or that someone who sins is a child of God. So if you are someone who still can sin then you certainly are not a child of God and you definitely are a deceived child of the devil. “He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.” ‭‭I John‬ ‭3:8-9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ So this is why the believers who have been deceived by the devil will often twist what is being related in certain scripture verses since they are trying to justify why they still can sin and why they can still get sick. It's important to remember that we can have all the religion in the world, say all the right things, have the outward trappings of God, and yet God is far from us. Our eyes must always be on the Lord, or else our faith is dead and we're no better than Lucifer. Psalm 89 is a vision in Heaven, while Psalm 82 is on the earth. Psalm 89 has no connection to Psalm 82. Heiser uses Psalm 89 with his teaching on Psalm 82. Psalm 89 is more in line with Revelation 4 and the 24 Elders. The 24 Elders as Adopted, Faithful, Patriarchs, Judges or maybe even kings of the OT. Plus Psalm 89 is written by a different Prophet, Ethan. Psalm 82 was written by Asaph. Both are inspired by God. When it mentions the scripture cannot be broken is about the God of the OT is the same God in the NT in the person of Jesus. The Three persons of God as One and the Same God. Bascially the Father in the OT and the Son in the NT, still the same God. John 10: 35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken)" Notice in the this verse mentions the "word of God" Jesus Links himself to the same God that spoken thru the Prophet Asaph in Psalm 82. Psalm 82 is for the Jews and directed to the Jews. The Jews received the word of God from Prophets as well as the law. The word of God and the law was for the Jews that is the Divine council. Heiser's Divine Council theory is sensationalism, meaning he is not accurate. Where most fail, like Heiser is they do not expand on the “word” of the Lord in 3 forms. The “word” of the Lord would come to Prophets like Asaph who wrote Psalm 82. First the “word” was either “Spoken” and Second the “word” was written, this is how the scripture is given, so this is TWO forms of the “word” of the Lord. The Third form is in Jesus, since we are looking at Psalm 82 and John 10, we know that John is the Inspired Author for the Gospel of John. John wrote in John 1:14 “14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” This is how the scripture cannot be broken, linking the OT with the NT with the same God. Heiser and others like him aslo fail because they do not explain the Godhead/Trinity. Jesus is God as the person as the Son. There are THREE Persons of God within the Godhead....Father, Son, and Holy Spirit>>>The Godhead/Trinity. The problem with most scholars and students of the Bible is that they do not expand on the 3 persons of God, who are the Father, Son and Holy Spirit as well as the word/Word>>>>>Spoken, Writen, and Flesh. The other failure is explaining the gods of the OT of Psalm 82 and the gods of the NT John 10. Jesus answers the question on who the Psalm 82 gods are in John 10. Jesus quotes and repeats what God the Father had spoken thru the Inspired Prophet Asaph, Again Asaph wrote in Psalm 82:6 - “I said, you are gods.” Jesus says in John 10:34 “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” Here in John 10:34 Jesus links himself to the same God (Father) in Psalm 82. The phrase and title given "you are gods" is a legalistic title of Authority because the Jews were given the Law. The Jews were given the Law and 10 commandments to govern them and council them, so it is imposible for this to be nonhuman spirit beings or angels. God also established covenants with Humans, not nonhuman spirit beings or angels. For the Jews their Religion and Governig was together, not like the USA where there is a seperation of church and state. Jesus says in 10: 34 “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” Asaph wrote in Psalm 78 the Jews having the law. Psalm 78: 9 The men of Ephraim, though armed with bows, turned back on the day of battle 10 they did not keep God’s covenant and refused to live by his law." In Psalm 78 is more of a reminder chapter for the nation of Isarel. In John 10 Jesus is equating Himself to the same God in Psalm 82, Jesus uses an "I said" statement. Let's focus in on the words Jesus uses,. He uses an ‘I said”. The “I said” stament is no different than an “I am” statement. The “I am” statemanets and “I said” statement of Jesus in the Gospel of John are really one and the same. These are not metaphors; rather, they are declarations of God’s name, as applied by Jesus to Himself. The first instance of an “I am” comes as Jesus responds to a complaint by the Pharisees. “I tell you the truth,” Jesus says, “before Abraham was born, I am!” (John 8:58). The verbs Jesus uses are in stark contrast with each other: Abraham was, but I am. There is no doubt that the Jews understood Jesus’ claim to be the eternal God incarnate, because they took up stones to kill Him (verse 59 that would be blasphemy to the Jews because Jesus made Himself out to be God). The same logic is applied to John 10:35, Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” which directly comes from Psalm 82:6 I said, “You are gods, And all of you are children of the Most High.” A person can clearly see in Psalm 82 and in John 10 it would be Jews being addressed, not nonhuman spirit beings or angels, like some promote, which Mr. Heiser is Huge on, this made him famous. Heiser is a blind teacher. Smart on Hebrew language and how to speak (Very Inticing and Luring), But bad on Application and Interpretation. Heiser Ignores In John 10 and Psalm 82 1. The law (Authority for the Jews and Jewish Elders/Judges) Also see In Exodus 22:8 & 9 here is where a person can find how the role of these Elders/Judges ("gods" or "elohim), established by Moses. The law was given to Moses. 2. The prophet (Asaph wrote Psalm 82) 3. The " I said" (word/Word of the Lord Written/Spoken thru Prophets in OT Revealed in NT Word bacame Flesh>>>>Jesus/Son). 4. Linking OT Scripture with NT Scripture (Scripture cannot be broken). 5. Psalm 82 and John 10 are directed to Jews, NOT Polythiesm nonhuman spirit being or angels like Mr. Heiser promotes. 6. Explainig the Godhead/Trinity as always existed even before creation, Father, Son, Holy Spirit are THREE persons of ONE and the SAME God, 7. Expalining since the Jews had this law of God and from God, Puts them in a High level of Authority to Judge and carry out the law of God and represent God, but they will die like men becasue they do a poor job of representing God and the law. Psalm 82 6 & 7 NKJV, "I said, “You are ‘gods’; you are all sons of the Most High.”7 But you will die like mere mortals; you will fall like every other ruler.’ ESV I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you, nevertheless, like men you shall die, and fall like any prince.” This is also a huge argument with Hieser and his followers, but is decieving and many are mislead on Heiser's teaching. Man (mortal/flesh) is under the Curse of death, becasue sin leads to death. The Curse happed in Genesis 3 and the fall of man. Romans 5: 12 "Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned" Aslo since God created man from the ground and dies, so man retrurns to the ground. Genesis 3: 17-19 To Adam he said, ‘Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, “You must not eat from it, ‘Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken, for dust you are and to dust you will return.’ Very clear since they die like men it is fitting these men return to the ground from which man (mortal/flesh) came and fall like every ruler/prince (mortal/flesh). God has the Supreme Authority and Rule over the Jews and the whole earth and all rullers. Heiser blindly uses replacement theology with the rulers/princes he replaces the mortal/flesh with nonhuman/spirits that is where Ploytheism comes into play with his teaching. Again, Very poor on Interpreatation and Application.Another huge problem with Heiser is he is not Solo Scripture and does not let Scripture define Scripture.
