Typically people can’t do anything with other people because it hurts their own heart to do so. Maybe it hurts their conscience. We can form a moral code because we are gifted with intellect and the emotional disposition. A Catholic points out we are created in the image of God. So I am deducing we have the capacity and inclination for having a moral sense. It’s just that even the good version of our code that we fail to live up to is probably still not perfect.

heard John Anderson say, “We use way too many fossil fuels. We’re hopelessly addicted to them.” Having listened to countless talks by JBP I’m acutely aware of how observant he is of language. I’d love to hear his interpretation of someone saying we’re hopelessly addicted to fossil fuels. From my perspective, saying we are hopelessly addicted to fossil fuels presumes that they are, without question, bad for humanity and that there is/are alternatives that are better - which is emphatically NOT the case in both instances. There may be, from a pollution perspective, cleaner sources of energy, but they are more expensive than fossil fuels and are not easily portable. And, they don’t provide the net energy output that a lesser amount of fossil fuel does. So it isn’t that we are hopelessly addicted; rather, it’s that we have found a cheap, plentiful source that provides safety and security and we aren’t prepared to sacrifice that on more expensive and more scarce alternatives whose net-positive impacts on the planet are questionable at best.

An economics professor made a statement that she had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. The class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. (when everyone has their own 1/8th acre of land, all would have what they needed, free to create on it what they want, share it for free with others, not limited to socialism or capitalism) The professor then said, ok, we will have an experiment in this class on this plan. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A… After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. the students that studied hard were very upset and the students that didn’t study where happy. A second test rolled around, the students that had studied a little even studied less and the ones that studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too, so they studied only a little. the second test average was a D. no one was happy. When the third test rolled around, the average was a F. As the tests proceeded, the scores got lower the bickering, blame and name calling resulted, no one would study for the benefit of anyone else,(what do capitalists want? more capital, own all capital, then force its slaves to pay a debt to use it. hourly wage, welfare, people try to do less and less, communist countries, the state owns everything, people are total slaves, not able to create anything and share the blessings with others) to their great surprise, all failed. so anyone can see that socialism(and capitalism) always goes to the lowest denominator, then proceeds to go and make things even worse, lower then it was. Socialism and capitalism = communism ultimately fails. One parent had bought grade 1 english and math phonics books, everyday they did 2 pages in the two phonics books, after a few months the teacher told the parent to stop teaching the child, it was doing much better than the other children and that it was a social problem. When capitalism and socialism are married they evolve into communism where non are allowed to do better than the state's master/leader/dictator/controller. imagine, think a body and spirit, is love, wise, and power, able to forgive and be free? avoid debt, the lie, be true and free.

I’m the first section: wiping out AU’s debt I feel as if not enough tis aid about the pervious government, they did not just float the dollar as John says, they completely revolutionised and modernised the Australian economy as well as introducing landmark social legislation, leading to the debt, this is what is known I think as a structural deficit, a debt taken with the knowledge of it turning a profit in the future, which helped create some of the growth under Anderson and Howard.

I just wanted to add a dimension of why people go through and look upon the stations of the cross. Not only was it unjust suffering, but it was the voluntary unjust suffering of an all-powerful Being who chose to make Himself weak and subject Himself to it, in order to save the world that He loved so deeply. So we also behold the stations of the cross in complete and utter awe of and endless gratitude toward the Man who saved us. Thank you Dr. Peterson, I love your podcasts so much!

So. I've heard rebuttals to the greening of earth, mainly claims that China's ambitious tree-planting policy is its cause. I have to suspend my disbelief on this this one, bc I can't see how China's trees contributed to that much greening in such a short period of time. And I'm unsure if the greening took place anywhere near China. Can anyone steelman the China tree theory? I want to know if I am missing something here...

If we really wanted to prevent pollution, instead of trying to shut down developing countries we'd help them build safe and efficient nuclear power plants. Long term this could be done in a cost neutral or even profitable way, loaning them the cost of the plants and having them pay it back as their economy grows.

Hi Jordan. I signed up to YouTube premium a few years back so I didn’t have to listen to ads constantly during your videos. Now I’m getting slammed by ads and it is negatively impacting my listening and viewing experience. Is there a way DW can have the ads removed for premium subscribers on YouTube? I hope so as the thing I like most about the podcasts and videos is the flow of quality conversation. Great conversation with John Anderson.

Such a wonderful back and forth discussion - was really interested in the Wedgwood medallion comment so searched for it - wonderful piece but disappointed that the Royal Collection Trust included this comment in the description "The upper classes typically did not kneel to pray at this time and therefore this image appealed to white European views of converting enslaved people to Christianity and ideas of humility, although in the longer term it highlighted ideas of racial inferiority." To me the figure is not praying but appealing to those enslaving him to recognize his humanity. Thank you John for your wonderful snapshot of history.

I remember when I was a teen I wrote two pages making the argument that 4 year elections cycles are a mistake. A 10 year cycle would allow the government to get most large projects done, with a 4 year cycle there is only about 2 years to do things in, the rest of the time is spent politicking. It wasn't even a school project, I simply had watched the 7:00 pm news every night since I was a baby because that was the family rule.
