No brains? The main disadvantage of EV vs. Diesel is the distance you can drive between charging and the duration of the charging. If the diesel can do 2000 miles on one trip and refueling takes 20 minutes and the EV can do 500 miles but needs 60 minutes to charge, in any long distance hauling scenario the diesel will arrive hours ahead of the Tesla. The few minutes it gains with acceleration and a higher speed on a sloped road are utterly destroyed by the charging times. That's basic math at work. And no one in the audience can do basic math? Let's be generous and say the 100kW array produces 100kW with full midday sun. In summer that's around 4-5 hours per day if lucky, with the rest of the day either slowly building up to or falling away from that. Sometimes in summer, that can drop a few kW if it's extremely hot too. In winter you'd be lucky to crack 60kW for around 1-2 hours in the middle of the day. You need to charge a 900kWh battery in the truck, plus a spare 900kWh battery in case it's cloudy tomorrow. I'm in Sydney, Australia and a 13kW system (limited to 10kW by inverter due to export limits) can produce about 90kWh a day, with clear skies in mid-summer on a 30 degree C day, and about 45-50kWh in mid-winter. So, 10X for a 100kW system, this is 900kWh in mid-summer and about 500kWh in mid-winter. Therefore, to charge 1800kWh (both truck and spare battery) in winter, you'd need about a 400kW array to just scrape by with perfectly clear skies.
