Of course these had air conditioning and the guys that adjusted the system and designed all the vents used the same principe to see the airflow. They put puff's of a powdery, smoke like, substance in the room to see where the air was flowing and how fast. Almost everyone knows about big buildings and the cold draft many rooms have. These guys in our organisation back then were carefully measuring the real air flow to see if they had to change vents sizes, positions, shapes to make the air in any room comfortable.
