We get used to mediocre performance levels. - To tap into creativity and flow states, you need strong intrinsic motivation - curiosity, passion, purpose, autonomy, mastery. These drive focus and neurochemicals for peak performance. - Set clear goals at different levels to activate your brain's innate pattern recognition system. Know your starts and endings. Constraints can boost creativity. - Personality doesn't scale, biology does. Build skills grounded in your neurobiology for reliable results vs copying others' approaches. - In your 20s, embrace novel experiences to build pattern recognition. Avoid calcifying imagination as you age by staying open to new perspectives. - Truth filters like science and journalism help validate ideas. Don't jump from insight to claims without research. Psychedelics can inflate ego. - Sleep is essential mental "life support." Prioritize it for cognitive function, emotional regulation, Alzheimer's prevention, immunity. - Apply evidence-based strategies like sleep regularity, darkness, coldness, meditation, restricting late caffeine. Don't nap if insomnia. The key is understanding and optimizing your biology for peak performance. Motivation, focus, creativity and sleep are foundational.>> <<@robertgrayraleigh says : TOM!!! Give us higher volume choices. With white noise outside of my car, ur volume was set so low that even wide open this wasnt loud enough.>> <<@Thinkaboutit84 says : Steven Kotler, your best guest so far for me; thank you.>> <<@BHaidacher says : A fiction book! As a writer Kotler is interesting… yet he only has achieved writing…. The same with Diamandis, which is a God sent last name because it sounds like Diamonds. This of course he uses masterfully to sell hope (as a master marketeer) for a future he describes. Both sell ideas that make us dream and yearn for stuff that may be unattainable. They do know a lot of theoretical fluff that gives us the feeling they know. But, what have they accomplished besides good marketing or one good book after practicing a lot? You, the unknown, who actually perform the work in the real world are the one who do the work. If they provided inspiration like Star Wars, this is their contribution. You performed the miracle!>> <<@tyson6857 says : Steven Kotler should be on a lot more podcasts. What an amazing ability to share interesting ideas!>> <<@tyson6857 says : Man, I love Steven! Every time he mentions something that makes you curious, whether or not it's on topic, and whether or not he has finished addressing the current question, you literally interrupt him to ask about it, and derail the conversation into something that has nothing to do with why he or we are here. Nobody is watching this video to learn about his writing process, his time as a journalist or magician, or about how to build and manage a creative team. Presumably, we are here to talk about his latest book, about peak performance, and about getting into a flow state. And yet somehow, 75% of this video ended up being about something else. You gotta learn to stay focused.>> <<@HardcoreMotors says : Interesting to me is that he stopped being a magician because he had to lie to people doing that, and then became a journalist.................>> <<@DJSTOEK says : 😷💕💕>> <<@aprilumek1374 says : Great interview. Ive heard you share the quote you think often about before. “Genius is a young man’s game.” When I’ve heard you share your experience with that, I have AGREED in that IT SCARES THE HELL OUT OF ME! I just had my 64th birthday and I find myself in several very challenging situations at the moment, one of which is that I’m moving from my beautiful HOME that my husband and I have built together for 41 years now! I love him with all my heart as well as OUR FAMILY we’ve made together with our 26 year old daughter (who btw is OUTSTANDING and I’m about to create some (probably MANY!),online courses for parents. I understand on a very deep level a lot of what people and parents especially do not know or understand and how URGENT IT IS to get this information out to the world! I JUST KNOW THAT IVE ALWAYS SOMEHOW KNOWN WHAT I LEARNED MYSELF THROUGH BECOMING A PARENT MYSELF…..and now we have a daughter who adores us as we do her, who lives independently of us, who is a productive, creative, excited, curious, ambitious; just a generally well sustained balanced person who yes, of course has every single issue to deal with and problem to “conquer a learning from”, and also has the resilience and self love and self awareness and most importantly, the confidence that comes from having had experiences that contain the knowledge and the wisdom that arrives as a result of all of that, TO BELIEVE THAT SHE CAN tackle new skills…and just the rest of it haha…… all I’m saying is that SHE IS OKAY…,.. not TOO haha traumatized by us, but sees her own therapist by choice to deal with all of that…… so of course we MESSED IT ALL UP HAHHAHA MANY TIMES but you get the general idea….. and she gets mad at me now , in a fun loving ENOUGH haha way that for having always said she was my personal experiment with love, haha BUT SHE WAS AND SHE KNOWS IT…. Anyhoo point being I HAVE DONE MY EXPERIMENT FROM MY HYPOTHESIS ABOUT HOW TO RAISE HER instinctively through a set of parents’ intuition and both knowledge and skill gathering . I proved it to ME haha (all that’s really important righto?, and I look around the world today and I see many wounded children in adult garb and it’s just very sad and I lift us all up every day) ok I digress ..,., i wanted you to understand THAT I HAVE BECOME OUTRAGEOUSLY PASSIONATE about making this happen AND FROM THAT SPACE I HAVE ALSO BECOME OR RECOGNIZED THAT I ACTUALLY AM ONE OF THE MOST CREATIVE PEOPLE IVE EVER MET!!!! GENIUS IS A YOUNG MANS GAME……..,.,., it HIT me on today’s podcast Tom! IM A VERY PHILOSOPHICAL PERSON AND THAT QUOTE resonated with me as TRUTH; that is what scared me soooooo much until this podcast!!!!!! I HAVE BECOME YOUNG AGAIN in my mind and heart and consciousness and I understand that this is so much bigger than me! I’m actually haha and sheesh, JUST NOT THAT IMPORTANT in that I do not even NEED to do it all..,,, I just need to do what I can do acquiring skills (I can’t even use a laptop today TOM! I’m afraid and I SERIOUSLY NEED TO CATCH UP haha and ITS EMBARRASSING!!!!), pulling my knowledge and wisdom together, improving myself across ALL INDUSTRIES is how I feel it……. so I WAS sort of almost frightened into freezing mode every time I heard you or thought about that quote! But guess what??? I did not think I was creative!!!! OMGOSH IVE FOUND OUT I AM SO INCREDIBLY CREATIVE Tom! And though my knees are knocking together I JUST GOT IT TONIGHT!!!!! YES! GENIUS IS A YOUNG MANS GAME!!!!! Just NOT young on the MAN MADE CALENDAR.,……. YOUNG IN HEART MIND SPIRIT AND EMOTIONS!!!!!! THAT IS WHY I CAN COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND NOW WHY THIS QUOTE HAS ALWAYS RESONATED AS TRUE WITH ME!!!!! It IS true! Just NOT true through the lens on my before your podcast glasses haha!!! THANK YOU! NOW I HAVE A NEW PAIR!!! And my heart completely makes peace now with this quote resonating true!!!! I wonder Tom, does any of this have a ring of feeling true for you???? I am attempting to be of service …… Love and Joy, Cathy oldER chronologically maybe, but that AINT WHAT IM TALKIN ABOUT BABY HAHA 😍😍😍!!!>> <<@MrGhirbo says : i stopped watching your videos since you post videos more than 50min.
