<<@damaliamarsi2006 says : Just paid US $12.75 for 33kwh which is one gallon. Will be selling my electric car for gas to save money. Also if you pay 47 cents per KWH which is 1/33 of a gallon y0u are paying us $15.74 per gallon as one gallon of gas is equal to 33.5 KWH.>> <<@vanmai2542 says : My 2009 Corolla has 400,000+, runs like a clock, built like a tank. Still gets 400 miles on a tank.>> <<@johnnyflyover2778 says : It's a frigging glorified golf cart.>> <<@camels9654 says : The finances make no sense to me. A Tesla Model Y after 5 years loses 50% of its value, a new Tesla here in Canada with tax is roughly $95,000, so in five years you're losing $45k in depreciation. Charing costs might be $1k per year, so cheaper than gas, which with my Toyota Tacoma costs me about $4k per year in gas. My Tacoma loses maybe 20% of it's value over 5 years, it cost me $50k new, and 5 years later it's still worth $40k. So over 5 years it will cost you roughly $10k per year to own a Tesla when you consider charging costs and depreciation. The Tacoma will cost you roughly $6k per year to own. If we look at the 10 year picture, the Tesla is going to be nearly worthless and need a $30k battery at year 10. The Tacoma will be still worth probably 40%-50% of it's original price, so let's say $20k. And you've spent $40k in gas over 10 years. So all in, over 10 years the Tacoma cost you $70k, whereas the Tesla cost $130k. Not to mention higher insurance rates with the Tesla. I think until they get a battery that lasts 20 years or is cheap, they aren't a good buy.>> <<@MikeNJ2026 says : EV are cheaper than gas. I am surprised the electric companies are not raising electricity like crazy. I think once more EV are on the road they will raise electric bills to make people use less electricity . The power lines will get oversaturated.>> <<@goat7844 says : The average USA citizens don’t have good enough credit to afford a entry level house. Most USA citizens can’t afford to buy a EV. The media is pushing EV on people. Most people don’t want a EV. Too many unforeseen problems. They have rolling blackouts in some states. The USA is a major drought in some USA states. Electric bills will skyrocket in future.>> <<@Cast1 says : 😅 I still like Gas Cars >> <<@swapnas6966 says : How about considering battery replacement charges after 10 to 15 years ?>> <<@importantname says : how much time is spent planning your every day around keeping your mobile charged?>> <<@SalManila1 says : THE upfront costs are prohibitive for most.>> <<@paladin3116 says : Terrible comparison. You compared the Tesla to a bmw with average gas mileage that uses premium gas. You should of compared this to Camry hybrid which is a better comparison, the Camry hybrid gets 52 combined. I ran the same calculations as you, the Tesla has a $6000 running cost over 5 years and the Camry has $5500 with a average gas price of $2.60 or $6100 using the current inflated gas prices of $3.20. Also of course you didn’t mention the cost of the battery when it eventually dies and needs to be replaced. A new battery for a Tesla model 3 is $13k-16k depending on the dealer. Also there are no aftermarket options. A Toyota hybrid battery at a dealer will be $3500-4000 and when the car is old enough there are aftermarket options for around $2000-$2500. 99% of drivers don’t drive 20k miles so no one would ever save 13k-16k>> <<@1voluntaryist says : And the cost of breathing air polluted by ICE fumes? The cost of the lives lost in crashes that end in fiery explosions? It's in the name: internal COMBUSTION engine. The cost of lost gas due to expansion into fumes that expel into the air? The NET cost of gas, after the taxpayer subsidies $BILLIONS$ granted to the oil cartel? The inconvenience of relying on gas stations/gas prices set by a monopoly? Or, producing your own fuel (electricity) by PV panels, storing it in your PowerWall II for energy independence, freedom from the grid/gas station. What is more control over your life worth?>> <<@Mgkamiolo says : The free supercharging miles referral program has ended.>> <<@TheElectricMan says : it cost me about $450 per year>> <<@danielramsey1959 says : Too many people hate an EV.
