Greetings All! Some here are noting that I am wrong to state that DVI does not carry audio, but I believe they are mistaken. There is no audio in the DVI specification, and it is technically impossible to plug a DVI cable into a DVI socket on a PC at one end, and into a DVI socket on a monitor at the other end, and transmit any audio. Only a video signal will be carried. What can occur is that an adapter cable is used to connect a DVI and audio port at the PC end to a HDMI input on a monitor or TV -- meaning that the connection made to the monitor is via HDMI. :) Or, some graphics cards were made that did output audio from a DVI port, but not one that met the DVI specification. And again, the connection will not be DVI to DVI. It will be βDVI with audioβ at one end, but HDMI at the other. Given that any display connector output can be connected to any monitor input with an appropriate adapter, neither of the above scenarious may reasonably be described as being a DVI connection. Call me old fashioned, but a "DVI connection" is one where DVI is used at both ends.

Excellent on all points. Wish you had FireWire cable: 4-pin (male) to 9-pin (male), Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter (model MD464LL/A or similar) and Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter

We still use 30β Apple Cinema Displays for our business. These were purchased in 2008 and use Dual Link DVI. Finding newer adapters was some trial and error, but worth it. They are work horses and are still better than any 2k monitors out there. Yesh, this is madness probably caused by Dr Evil and Goldmember!

The DVI Audio confusion may be Caused by the ADC (Apple Display Connector) that carries audio but looks VERY similar to DVI.

Yesterday I bought a cable that says Displayport/HDTV to connect my new monitor to my PC. The thing is, I couldn't connect it. Is it more likely that I will be able to connect it with a Displayport/HDMI cable? Displayport/HDTV Isn't the same thing as a Displayport/HDMI cable? What cable should I buy then, to connect my 2015 Monitor that has displayport to my 2012 PC that has HDMI? Thanks

ok, I recall using a dual screen setup but that during boot or entering bios only the display connected via VGA would show anything, the other screen connected with DVI remained blank until Windows loaded. I'm currently having issues where my display is blank during boot and bios and I'm wondering if there remains an issue with digital connections? I'm trying to install Linux Mint 22 on a GMKtec M5, my screen is a LG TV because my original screens only have VGA and DVI whereas the TV has HDMI, AVI and an assortment of other more colourful options not covered in your video. The GMKtec has HDMI, DP and USB-C. I'm stuck in Win11 limbo (hell) as I can't boot from USB and can't access or see the bios to allow myself to do so. Suggestions gratefully received.

USB type C - i've only thought of them for charging a phone:) I'm looking at a monitor to buy that has this transmission over a type c cable - If I get this monitor, will the usb c end plug into the monitor and the normal looking display port end connect to my pc? If monitor also comes with a straight up display port cable - should I use it? Preferable over the type C? My motherboard has 1.0, 1.1 and DP4 as well as a few type C. Sorry to trouble. I'll soon have a powerful new PC while deciding on a monitor. Thanks
