It is VERY interesting how relevant the ending of Metal Gear Solid 2 has become in recent years ... An AI that is overwhelmed by nonsense, trying to filter through disinformation and gossip, to try and determine what is true. And upon being asked: 'And YOU think you have the right to tell what is true or not?' it responds with an ice cold: 'Absolutely. Who else could wade through the sea of garbage you humans produce?'

Pretty much spot on. Most of the ai videos are pretty obvious and suck ass, and most all of them get practically no views. But sometimes they do. And if you go on google images it's even worse with nearly everything being ai now. You can search something as simple as "tree" and the first image is ai. Why? There are probably trillions of photos of actual tress. What the fuck is the reason for the ai generated trees? Who is benefiting from this.

those bot channels already destroyed a large part of YouTube for me. Back in the day, when there was something happening, you could just sort by upload date and see what people thought of it. Was a great way to find new ideas and channels. But now, if you search something like Joe Rogan and do it by upload date, you either get just news channels, or bot channels, it is completely swamped.
>>
<<@LesterBrunt
says :
I fear it will destroy the internet, but I hope it will bring desperately needed regulation. It already is at a point where you can't be certain that anything written online wasn't just prompted to an AI. In a couple of years, it will be so good that even video will be indistinguishable. And then, you will have no way of knowing whether anything that falls outside of the very select few established channels is real or AI generated. The only way out of it, is to make it so that if you want to publish anything, from videos to comments, on the internet, you need to have your identity verified and tied to that publishing. It could still be anonymous, just have some step verification that is tied to your actual social security number or something similar. In my country, there is already an app that does that if you want to make doctors appointments, or do taxes, those kind of things. We need consequences for fraud, for deceiving, for misinformation. Without it, then lying is a virtue. And the way the internet is set up now, there are no real consequences. At best, you get banned, so you make a new account through a vpn. So why not just write a bot that can spam AI generated YouTube shorts, that is a great way to make money, who cares that it is fraud, that you are using AI to do it, what are they going to do? Ban those accounts? You scripted a bot to make new accounts through vpns, it is unstoppable. Unless, you couldn't just make an account but had to have government certified verification.

the short clips section is also really badly hit. sometimes when you go through it, there will be 10 clip with same topic, same music and then one clip with something vaguely relevant and then more autogenerated videos or whatever the f they are. it is really horrible. youtube and every other platform should make it mandetory to tag such things and then people should be able to select if they want to view that sort of thing or not.

If the content of YouTube consists of computer generated bullshit who is going to watch it? People who like being lead around by their own opinions. I doubt that has a long term future and instead destroys the medium as one you dont bother with because it is not worth it. Eventually boring tedious bullshit will destroy itself by its falsehood, but it needn't be quick. YouTube keeps trying to push some very tedious right wing bullshit on me. Including absolutely anyone who has a problem with Disney, presumably because i watch Nerdrotic, DVD and The Critical Drinker. Thats plenty thanks it did eventually push some random ThundrfOOt my way.

Finally, Unfortunately your ad hominem attack on a narrative in the Old Testament demonstrates a woeful understanding of the purpose of the narrative. I challenge you to lay aside your bias and read the Old Testament from cover to cover and explain how a bunch “ ignorant Sheppard “ for example ,knew about the Suns orbit , 1000’s over years before modern man did, this is only one of many examples Ps. 19 :4b-6. Consumption of internet content by humans is, and will always be, the bottleneck. So it doesn't really matter how much the AI can rise the chances of producing a viral content, that content will not automatically become viral. It still has to compete for the same narrow bandwitdh of attention of an average user. The only possibilty is that AI will squeeze human creators out of that space, but since most viral content was garbage from the start, there's no more harm there than it already is. The dangers are elsewhere.

I have had similar thoughts. I am hoping that bc storage of a deluge of AI content will come with a greater bandwidth of overheard for social media...they might actually take steps to mitigate a constant stream of poorly performing AI just so they are not footing the bill for a constant stream of automatic AI content uploaded at their expense. But I agree that they are far less incentivised to do anything about AI content that performs well and drives their metrics profitably.

One of my hobbies on youtube now is blocking ai-produced channels. I already only subscribe to channels under 3k subs, and to give my watch time to independently-created channels. Youtube got too much like free tv for my liking a while ago, but this latest direction is like cable tv. If it weren’t for the communities I have invested in over years, and some other minor factors I am not sure I would still spend this much time on YT.
