i do film photography and when people ask if an image is "edited" it always makes me laugh. the photo is a negative, and the true "black" part of the image begins as a browny orangey tinted film, not pure white. Inverting a film negative to make it into a positive isnt just a magic process where you click "invert colours". You invert the colours, you adjust the white balance of the image such that objects intended to be white are white, and then you adjust the sliders for each colour to deal with colour cast and a multitude of other little things that make the straight inversion look different to reality. it had to be "edited" just to make it viewable as a regular photo on your phone. if youre just adjusting sliders (e.g. sharpness, contrast, saturation, white balance, tint, vibrance, vignette etc.) i see that as a standard part of editing. if you take film photos or RAW photos you literally must edit your photos to make them resemble reality at all. most photography (excluding the very interpretative and artistic stuff) seeks to recreate the way something actually looked in the moment you saw it. a beautiful sunset on my DSLR might come out looking pretty flat and dull in the RAW file compared to how gorgeous it was to the eye. you need to make edits to bring it more in line with what the human eye saw in that moment. i would even call an HDR composite or focus stacked image a "photo". 3 photos of the same frame at different exposure settings or with different focal planes is just a method to overcome technical limitations. a super high tech camera could capture every stop of dynamic range in one shot, but we dont have that so sometimes we take multiple shots in an HDR. with perfect lighting conditions and without too large issues of diffraction we could take the entire shot with one set focus, but sometimes we cant and have to take multiple to stack later. its only when you start compositing things not already in the image that i see it as no longer an photograph but a composite image. if i take a photo of my girlfriend in front of the eiffel tower edit the photo to differentially adjust the exposure of her and the background thats still a photograph. if i take a photo of her at home and the eiffel tower by itself then paste her in, thats a composite image. there is no "photo of my girlfriend in front of the eiffel tower", theres just a photo of her, and a photo of the eiffel tower sitting on top of each other. this is all to say: if the phone is using outside info about the moon to add detail that doesnt exist in the original photo, it may as well be compositing an image of the moon onto your image of a blurry disc. if the phone was using AI sharpening and detail enhancing features that had no knowledge of what the moon looked like (simply attempting to enhance the details in your image based on the patterns of pixels it sees) that to me would be still a photo. an AI enhanced photo, but still a photo. sharpening edges and detail based on information in the photo, and adding details wholesale from an external database are very different things.

If you put a watermark on the moon and blow up the exposure while doing 100x zoom. The watermark is modified to be part of the moon, it actually really modify the image and not just edit. Please confirm again.

You don't need to go to the moon to discover all this fake AI stuff. I've got the s23+ and you just need to take a selfie with any 3rd party cam app (that bypasses samsung AI). My last phone, that still works, was an galaxy A51 that's a 4yo mid-range phone and it takes way better selfies than the s23

Marques, dude, your presentation style is remarkable. You speak so simply but eloquently, a touch more rapidly than most, but crystal clear, absolutely riveting. And you toss in just a little humor to keep it all flowing like verbal silk. Sometimes when I watch a video I silently wish it would hurry up and finish. When this video ended I wanted more. I'm definitely going to check out more of your superb work. (Also, thank you for the information π). You've just gained a fan.
