I can imagine that's the reason this prototype had a metal support rail to begin with, but probably cut it out to save on cost (yes it would have added some weight, but the magazine has metal plates and they were left in, even though technically the magazine does not really need heavy metal plates, since they are not anchored to anything else and do not stop the stress on the plastic in the rest of the magazine, especially as it has tiny screws in the very edges of the plastic, a bad idea). I know this as I successfully replaced the magazine steel plates with carbon fibre.
