As some have spotted, whilst the HP EliteDesk 800 G2 I purchased was specified with a 6500T i5 CPU (the Amazon listing appears at 1:35), the unit I received has a 6500 CPU, which has a 65W rather than 35W TDP (thermal design power). So the machine is a bit more powerful than its claimed specs, but uses more energy. I should have looked more carefully at what Windows reported at 12:18. My apologies. Things were rather hectic when I was making this video.

My main computer failed and I had an EliteDesk 800 G2 overnighted to me as a quick backup while I wait for the parts to build a new computer. To my surprise, it came with Win 11 Pro preinstalled on the 2.5 HDD. I was going to swap in a SSD so I can run Linux, but your video makes me curious whether I have an M.2 slot so I could just set it up to dual boot using separate drives. I watched this video when it first came out and had the EliteDesk 800 G2 bookmarked in an Amazon list in case I ever needed it. That certainly paid off. Thanks for your years of great videos. (Also, seeing others comment on noise - this particular unit is really quiet.) Update: I have 2 M.2 slots as in the video. I'm now running Linux Mint on a 2280 NVME. Even with the top off, this unit is still really quiet.

Been wanting one of these as a homelab for a while. Good thing is that nowadays the G3 can be found for around $60 to $80 USD, and usually comes with a 7500T - a generation newer and most importantly, if you want to use it as a media server, an iGPU with support for HEVC coding/decoding.

There's something fun to me about these little compact computers. Considering the low cost, maybe I should consider grabbing one for general browsing. I've been forced to use my phone since losing my gaming PC to hardware failure and it'd be much nicer to have a proper desktop experience again.

Another terrific review, thanks so much. I was looking for a PC for a special dedicated task, and this was it. Great PC. (I also made sure to buy that display adapter too - thanks). Just like I picked up the BMAX after your review, I picked this one up too. Very happy with both for what they are. Cheers!

China's export ban will be very beneficial to India in the long run . Indian companies do not want to develop manufacturing to avoid losses competing with Chinese companies. With the ground cleared, they are likely to put their minds into R&D. The products may cost more initially but internal competition will lead them to get better with time. After all they landed a craft on the moon which was no easy feat.

It has a pretty old CPU (2015). The 2023 Intel N100 would be faster than this the i5-6100T and with a much lower TDP (6W vs 35W). The Intel N100 has become a very popular CPU with a number of cheap Chinese made miniPC.

I have one of these as my work horse in recycled tech/IT-support job! It has the default 6500T but upgraded ram to 2x8GB @ 2133MHz. Also has M.2 SSD but not sure if it was just SATA or NVME. It does not have those top cover meshed openings nor the secondary fan which both would help with thermals for sure! It was also recycled by our workplace and been wondering if I could slip I7-6700 in there :D Thanks for the video!

I once ordered a software license from HPE. One day, I got a rather large box shipped from HPE. I didn't remember ordering a new server recently. I opened the box to see a wall of styrofoam packing peanuts. Digging into the box, I found, at the exact center of the packing peanuts, a single sheet of paper with the license information on it.
