Along with her influence, Sant Tukaram Maharaj is also widely regarded as a major spiritual inspiration. The abhangs and teachings of Sant Tukaram Maharaj on devotion, equality, and moral strength influenced the society in which Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj grew up. There is also no clear contemporary document showing that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj took political or strategic advice from Samarth Ramdas. In contrast, the teachings and works of Sant Tukaram Maharaj are well documented and historically preserved. Because Sant Tukaram Maharaj came from a non-Brahmin background and spoke strongly about spiritual equality, many believe later narratives elevated Samarth Ramdas while downplaying Tukaram’s influence.
