I get what you mean though it crossed my mom too that like the X’s to interact don’t fit perfectly but interesting nonetheless. Lmao I remember I took traditional shop the last year it probably was offered 8th grade. Two highest test scores on got to use the stick arc welder, I wasn’t trying for the spot the equipment seemed kinda sketch. Figured a couple ppl would study hard to try and get the two spots on the arc welder. Suffice it to say it was shop class ended up with an A on that test without studying got a 5 minute walkthrough on what to do and was left to my own devices. Those new set ups make me jealous striking the stick like a match with the blacked out face protector on and deadly current in my hands, bit sketch. Finally after I built my confidence up for a while getting to the point where the horror stories out of my head. Like some bros setting themselves on fire using too much cologne and the sort were out of my head I was clipping along working on my technique with scrap metal. Go to start back up after a weekend, go to strike and it won’t light up so I give it a little more and I ground the stick to the metal workpiece and the metal workbench. The whole 2 x 1 piece of scrap metal was sparking and trying to fuse itself to the table. Fortunately I was quick enough in yanking the stick as hard as I could broke the workpiece off the table and the force of swinging it broke it from the stick. It drops with a loud clang I shut off the welder look around the alcove and the teacher is off directing the class somewhere far away like usual shrug and pretend like it didn’t happen. I started thinking that maybe I just wasn’t cut out for fabrication until a buddy of mine from school who was a master welder was coming in for a demonstration. He brought an acetylene torch for an outside cutting demo well right before he was about to start he does a double take and realizes there’s a leaking tank. Damn near blew up the entire class no joke, suppose that’s why he made 6 figures and had the title master caught that disaster before it blew up in our faces. I grew up helping renovate our home with my dad electrical work, carpentry, woodworking, plumbing had a hand in every major project except the kitchen and floors we contracted out. Learning to fabricate seemed like a good skill to pick up incase I made the same move as my parents snagging a fixer upper in a neighborhood above our current means. Never did take training in fabrication further after that 8th grade shop class. "a weapon is a very human concept". Is it? Many animals from elephants to chimps use weapons. Any intelligent spacefaring race would have weapons. To say it is a human concept is pseudo intellectual tree hugging nonsense. Even the animals that dont use weapons have them built in, from claws to teeth. Combined with our diversity hire asian guy and black woman, this girlboss vibe reeks of wokeness.
