So your argument is that, if you have a vessel with a hole in it and there's water on the outside at higher pressure than the fluid on the inside, the water will enter at the speed of sound in water. From the way you describe it, that speed is independent of the pressure difference. So, in other words, if I take a bottle, cover the neck with my finger and submerge it in a sink full of water, water will enter at about 1,500m/s (3,300mph). Riiiiiiiiiight.

The pressure washer demo was a wonderful demonstration of book-smart vs life-smart. I don't have a phd in physics, but I knew his shitty pressure washer wasn't going through that plastic without it being severely hammered by the sun.

From this video, I take two points. Firstly, the percentage of nitrogen and oxygen in air increases with rising air pressure. Secondly, the Titan, and maybe even the Titanic, was sunk by Das Boot. Very dubious, indeed.

The fact the sub made the trip multiple times proved the design works, but only a finite number of times. This was predicted and apparently they were searching for signs of this impending failure, but they failed to account for the fact that the failure is inherently difficult to detect and the danger is catastrophic and sudden. Most likely the carbon fibre composite experienced some kind of ware over time from being compressed and reformed on ascent. Likely the fibres warpped and realligned over time reducing the structural integrity of the material. This most likley causeed an issue at the point where the composit meets the titanium end caps. It was predictable, predicted and the owner failed everyone involved by flouting the laws of physics. Simple as that.

Carbon fiber is meant to keep pressure inside but it’s weak against pressure trying to come in. Carbon fiber is great in airplanes but down in the oceans it’s just a implosion waiting to happen

The water compressor test didn't work for a few reasons. First, is that most of the specs on those things are lies. Especially the electric ones. Second, is that in order to reach those pressures they need a tremendous water flow, that most garden hoses can't supply. If you had a gas ome, and a water tank to draw from, then you could hist 100 atm of pressure, but with an electric washer hooked up to a garden hose, it is impossible. The fitting aren't narrow enough.

There’s another company that likes to test in production to failure that comes to mind. SpaceX. Not that I’m foretelling anything but going into space is still pretty dangerous. So much so that it’s not a question of if so much as when an accident will occur. Now due to this accident Oceansgate is now officially out of business. Would the same thing happen to SpaceX? When NASA lost 17 astronauts across three separate accidents spanning decades it didn’t go out of business because it’s a government agency funded by congress. The astronauts, with the exception of Christa McAuliffe, government employees. NASA can’t be sued as a government agency. Though the families of all lost crew members did receive survivors benefits either in the form of promised accidental death compensation, or insurance payouts. But what happens to SpaceX the company when they have a fatal accident and kill a crew member? Or loses an entire ship full of them? The lawyers will be legion. You’ll have lawyers suing on behalf of the lawyers suing on behalf of the families of the lawyers suing. Every subcontractor who so much sold them a foam cup becomes potentially liable. Does the government bail them out? Obviously their contract for transporting humans to space on NASA’s behalf would be in jeopardy, but obviously they’ll be out of the sending humans to space business until a board like this has met to go over its findings. Then they’ll have to recertify their spacecraft as safe for human flight again. Would their other orbital payload delivery businesses be enough to help the company weather the storm? Or would they close up shop like Oceansgate? Time will tell. But if cultural climate is any predictor I’ll have those stocks ready to short sell all the same. They like blowing things up over there and writing them off as successes. That’s the wrong attitude to have when the margins for error are so small that any one thing could have an unexpected domino effect on systems designed at best with one to two layers of redundancy. Time will tell.
