This point is hard to grasp, apparently, although we were able to zoom through the fog to understand it when we were tackling a few more pressing issues early in our shared journey. Two factual elements are relatively easy to determine: the external universe has no intrinsic meaning (meaning is a necessary invention, an artifact of how we experience conscious being), and logic itself is purely external (a gift of the real external reality). Why aren’t more logically complete, equally simple theoretical frameworks being explored already? The even bigger bug is the lack of understanding of exactly where we stand, each individual essentially alone and trapped in a world that only exists as a logical model of the presumably real external reality we all inhabit. Finding ways to prove we all see the universe with the same eyes is what science is all about. It’s got a ways to go yet, but at least its a start - the standard tricks allow virtual certainty for agreement on many complex subjects. The real perspective is hidden in what we have to do to make that truly weird system even seem to work, to function so completely immersed in almost perfectly identical logically defined structures that no one could deny we all share the same world, regardless of the certain possibility that we haven’t yet got it just right, and that there’s more we need to do to capture what we’re still missing. We have been working for 50 years on this and other problems, much of what fits in the framework we’ve managed to come up with so far very much due to the work Albus shared with us back in ‘77, thank you very much. His trick was looking hard at the architecture visible in the hierarchical structures of the cerebellum, pretty much the only visually recognizable large scale organized set of systems in the brain. He was clearly helped by his background in engineering, rather than standard neurology or other bio or medical type specialties, so his CMAC models are shining examples of how to look at the logical architecture of hierarchical systems as meaningful control entities, systems in the classical engineering sense. As far as AI goes, there are easily recognized deep problems with what it promises, some of which might backfire when truly revved up, but we don’t really fear the reaper, at least not yet. One of the easiest to understand is the obvious lack of the very element that defines our shared reality, the common model that allows our high level logical linguistic trickery to beat the limits Shannon’s work defines. (4000 Hz indeed - there’s more information than that in this little note, yet it’s a sure bet if we read it to you, nobody would misunderstand.)
