Are drugs overprescribed (especially ADHD drugs)? Very much so. One thing I heard as a good rule of thumb is that if you're feeling numb or getting a high off of a drug then it is NOT something you should be taking. Also IMO all other lines of treatment should be exhausted first. I powered my way through for 20+ years of anxiety and depression and wanting nothing to do with taking any meds, only to reach the point where it wasn't just discomfort (which I can and did push through)...I actually reached the point of literally not being able to function despite the full force of my will AND all of my prayers and intellect. I do take an SSRI and I don't feel numb, high, or anything else.
