Thought this conversation was excellent bec of the topic and the actions taken to affect change that I think are worth heralding. Taking anonymous votes is like polling in the US. The other point brought up by Jordan was the fear factors in the University and how fears are to be handled rather than avoided. These are practical living skills that one would think parents would be providing. Hope more people hear this dialogue proving that something very good can be gleaned from a very painful experience for Jordan.😊❤

When you talked about jokes I thought of my definition which was similar to the way you said what makes a joke a joke. I think what a comedian does is they bring out the absurdity in a truth in a way that everybody understands as being the epitome of that truth displayed in that light. There is a clear difference between a “woke” comedian and a comedian. The woke comedian gets a laugh out of you because you have to force it out otherwise it’s not funny and requires you to think. A true or great comedian doesn’t require you to do anything other than illicit an emotion naturally. Laughter is almost like a reflex to the joke and I think if you are not laughing and you are mad or sad or any other emotion then the comedian has done their job. A comedian is looking for a reaction and not a thought of what the “appropriate” reaction should be. Comedians are linguistic artists!

Access to a conversation like this, 24/7, free, nearly anywhere on the planet through a device that is almost universally possessed by anyone who even marginally functions in society has enormous impact on human life. I imagine the Ottowa truck drivers on the road listening to this level of discourse and formulating their opinions. It gives me hope that the average human being has more than enough intelligence, faith and reason to motivate them to stand up to the arrogance of the power elite and the weak tyrants who are manipulated by them.

Please Dr Peterson -- can you travel up to Scotland (you know the place where Voltaire said "we look to for all our ideas of civilization," and free us from the monstrous regiment of Sturgeon, and her hard-hearted soft fascism. Sadly my country, despite our glorious intellectual past, is the least free, in speech terms, than any country in Europe. We need another Wallace, another Braveheart --- desperately. Desperately.

Cambridge's reputation still hasn't recovered since the cancellation of Peterson. Before he was cancelled the Uni had this huge reputation, when they cancelled Peterson it was analogous to placing a healthy sized penis into a glass of ice water -- it shrunk to the dimensions of a tiny acorn. The Uni and its graduates, past, present, and future have still not recovered. It doesn't help that they have that Indian nutter Tweeting against "whiteness" constantly -- that keeps the water chill.

It sounds like an exciting and stimulating visit for both universities to host. Very productive. I’m sorry that Dr. Peterson was unceremoniously “uninvited” before anyone bothered asking him how the photo op came about. In an age where photos can’t serve as a tool of reliable evidence to much, it seems that at such a prestigious University, they would have bothered to ask before they acted. Strange and unfortunate. It appears political correctness ruled the day before reason and investigation which is disturbing. I hope any talks Dr. Peterson gives will be recorded for the public or at least students around the world. So according to some Cambridge Professors’ logic, if a person wears a Neil Sedak t-shirt and I’m seen photographed with that person, then I’m supposedly a Neil Sedak fan as well. To those scholarly professionals…I’m actually more of a Pink Floyd listener myself.

Someone please let Dr Peterson know that the Marvel character incident may be directed at the 'Oathtakers' group in America, they have 10 rules to live by and are, I guess, far right. So it may not be him that the strip was 'characturing' so inaccurately, I think it was this Oattakers group.

It's a shame this is so polemic - as usual. What about exploring what the other side of the argument looks like? Not to agree with it, but to air it. People are afraid of extremism and how fast it spreads online; of hatred and death threats and rape culture. You could see all this as a product of internet culture - that you can form a mob in a matter of hours that have pitch forks out to genuinely kill people. That's what is driving the fear - armed mobs in America roaming the streets (with all sorts of assorted ideologies); two UK MPs being murdered for their beliefs. The fear doesn't come out of nowhere. We get death threats for wearing the wrong hat. It is horrible to have academics turn against you, but it's also horrible to have a mob baying for blood and threatening to rape your children because of Twitter post. Literally. Please take a wider perspective on the cultural shifts outside your own turret.

Jordan, if Christ was killed and yet innocent, don't be so surprised that you had been falsely accused and previously dis-invited. It was an opportunity for you to exercise your virtues and be a model for others, the influence may well be more remembered and have more powerful influence than the speech you were going to give then. After all, actions speak louder than words.

Did they really use the phrase "endorsement by association"? Why not just use the correct name of the fallacy? Its called "guilt by association". Why bother with trying to hide that this is a fallacy. Its probably just their own undereducated students that falls for that reasoning anyway. Anyone with an education worth it's salt instantly knows, that the University personal in power is either not educated up to proper standards or lacks the mental fortitude to defend the values of intellectual freedom. A freedom lot of intellectuals and scientists died for - and this personal *dares* to disinvite people because of a photo with some guy waring an t-shirt with an opiniated picture. Pathetic! Really, that personal responsible of the disinvitation needs to find a better suited job.
>>
<<@AppliedMathematician
says :
Where does this iteration of cancel culture came from? It looks like the typical bait and switch to gain power: First install general acceptance, that some opinions must be persecuted because people can not be educated to reliably enough make sound judgments. Then making sound judgments attacked because it can be used to help the ostracized. Then the art of making sound judgements is forgotten and finally the society is ripe of the next totalitarian justification ideology.
