It was mounted on a pivot, and once he had cocked it, he dropped his feet onto a couple of foot braces, which allowed him to aim the bow. Something came to mind, going into the realm of mechanical operations, with your mechanical knowledge, could you use an assisted piston to help recook the bow? The idea being once shot, you hold a button to allow air to energize a piston to help with the pulling back on the string?
