I know the script for this vid off by heart. Had tremendous difficulty expanding this NAS. After what appeared to be a successful installation drives would simply disappear the next day. Like a dog with a bone and dozens of retries later I had to resort to eliminating M.2 cradles, M.2 drives and USB leads. The problem was poor manufacturing quality of both USB-A to USB-C and USB-C to USB-C leads that weren't USB-C spec. (discarding, of course, charge only leads first). I've thrown away 5 leads where the manufacturers haven't adhered to USB-C spec.

1:39 The boot drive CAN be used for network data storage, they offer a plugin to enable this capability (openmediavault-sharerootfs)

<<@abulka
says :
Explaining openmediavault with the snapraid+mergerfs plugins would be an excellent part 2, to make things properly raid-like, using multiple drives pooled as one volume. Simulated drive failures and replacing a drive would make a part 3. I’ve just been through all this myself and it’s not easy (but doable) and needs ‘explaining’. 😉

I just found out the hard way: OMV7 and/or the Bmax B1 just like the one used here in this tutorial does NOT recognize a microSD card larger than 128gb in the native slot or 256gb via USB card reader. The new 512 gb micro SDXC I bought does not show up at all even though I could use it and even format it on a Windows PC

Great tutorial, but with the last step, Windows 10 Pro refuses to make access with the shared folder, unknown error. This happens with mybooklive too. Is there any port I should open on the modem/router?

Well, if you only need to access your files on the local network, why go through all this hassle? Just share a folder in Windows—totally unnecessary.

Encouraged by your very informative video and other people here on YouTube I build my first NAS and installed openmedia vault...again and again...and again. There was always something and however many forums i visited, it was a frustrating experience. Every time I got to a point, when I thought everything was done, there it was again, 500 internal error. I plugged in my NAS directly to the router for a stable internet connection, installed the necessary plugins to create Raid arrays and still when I wanted to save the pending configuration changes, there it was again 500 internal server error. My system is a 5600g with 32gigs of Ram on a mini ITX board from Gigabyte, with all the latest bios updates. 4 disks are direktly connected to the board with sata, another 2 are connected to an pci sata adapter, because mini itx.

Very helpful. Easy to understand and follow. Got OMV setup in no time. One point though: I am using a refurbished mini PC, and had to disable safe boot before OMV would boot. I got messages about this on burning the iso to usb, otherwise I might have got stuck. All works on my desktop, but for some reason my laptop sees the OMV computer but “windows cannot access”. More fun for me sometime.
