Iran was certainly an important consideration ofc, just like Egypt (which like Iran, are natural regional hegemons), but while Egypt and Saudi's warred quite a bit from the outset, Saudi-Iran hostilities didn't emerge in earnest before after Iran's "Islamic revolution" in 1979, years after the petrodollar was in place. Not a biggie ofc, it's easy to accidentally shuffle details when trying to grasp this ridiculously complex world of ours.
