I am watching this broadcast at the time when there is a battle in the Middle East. It is always America that attacks, and it is the Middle East that pays the price, it is right. I mean the Americans under Trump's administration. I don't understand why the Middle East is paying the price. What did they do? What about the Nazis?

Without oil wealth these countries will struggle big time. Dubai is without any oil reserves and had to rely on Abu Dhabi on a couple of occassions to bail them out. Dubai is able to remain "clean, developed, etc..." because of modern-day slave labour where they pay these poor workers peanuts. They are increasingly putting tarrifs and fees for everything. They attract Western talent because of the "zero income tax" incentive, but how long will this last for? Despite what this guest is saying, the UAE lacks basic fundamental human rights such as freedom of speech (surprised JP didnt pull him up on it given that JP is supposed to be a champion of freedom of speech). Dubai works overtime and is on overdrive in the PR deprartment. You can see this with this over the top and unnatural propensity to paint Dubai as the bastion of civilisation all over social media and with social "influencers." The weather is unbearable and the buildings unsustainable given the extreme heat, which means that when push comes to shove, the amount of energy and cost needed to cool these buildings will push this place to the edge in my view.

I lived in the UAE in the 80s. Even then, the cities were clean and safe. The natives were friendly and kind, and cultured. There will be here people making negative comments about all sorts of things mainly because they can't help themselves comparing the UAE to the west. That's a serious mistake. The middle east is ancient with a total different culture, traditions and religion. The west is now riddled with crime of every sort. Go to major cities in America and Europe. Crime ridden, filthy, homeless people sleeping rough. The majority drunkards and drug addicts. Tent villages spreading around. Women getting drunk and assaulted after leaving clubs and parties. Men wearing dresses claiming to be women and verbally abusing others for not supporting their delusions. Marches of hate advocating for the annihilation of all the people in an entire country. Identity politics is its religion. What's so wonderful about the west now? The cities in the UAE are clean. No drunkards. No one sleeps in the street. No women are harassed. There's law and order and you can practice your religion. I say, 10 /10 for the UAE.

Disregarding the fact that this clearly was a paid propaganda piece not even remotely connected to the topics usually covered on this podcast, not even a single critical question regarding its lack of democracy, poor religious freedom, treatment of women, revolting hate of lgbtq people, racist treatment of foreign workers... slow clap, Jordan... 👏 It's real easy to boast "this is who we are, this is our DNA" when you as a society shun and intimidate any differing opinions or cultural expressions. That's also why Dubai is a sterile, materalistic hellhole.

Honestly, this video sounds more like UAE propaganda than anything else. As others have noted, then it seems that all the negative sides of a society run like how they do are brushed over. The north korean workers, all that jazz.

I lived in UAE around 1992-2000. I left when I was 10. Back then UAE was heavily segregated. Foreigners like us who went to Dubai from oversee for work reasons were not allowed to go to school with the Arab students or live among the Arab neighbors. They did not want their blood to be tainted by associating with the likes of us. They considered the foreigners who were not well off as refugees, insects. They used to treat the workers who helped build their Emirate/skyscrapers like work slaves. My mom's heart yearned to go back home to Bangladesh because we were not treated equally whatsoever. I wonder if that situation changed. Arabs are heavily racist in that region. Also, the crime rate tends to stay low if you practice an eye for an eye law, the same as in Singapore. But we know that Eye for an Eye makes the whole village blind. What Arabs do very good at is taking care of their own people. They don't give a fuck if you are from another country unless, of course, you can spit out some money. Glad Jordan had this guy on. It was an interesting conversation.

Thank you gentlemen for this interesting conversation, especially as I know very little about the the UAE and I still feel ambiguous about this country in regards of trust. I know there is a research hub there and one prestigious university from Switzerland, called ETH, has a lab there. I would assume that many more universities around the world are there too. What motivated those institutions to go there is unclear to me and also why it's not spoken, or known publicly more. Dr Peterson's question regarding a companies ownership has not been answered. I would say that it was a necessity for the UAE as they had no other option than to open-up and be attractive to western education and research institutions to survive and prosper, especially after the worldwide intent to exit fossil fuels as far back as the 70'/80'. As a female architect myself, Zaha Hadid was promoted and celebrated more due to her gender rather than her accomplishment in architecture in the 80'. I liked her drawings, because she had the foresight that CAD (Computer Aided Design) would be the future. As CAD was limited at that time, her drawings were more graphics that architectural plans. There was a lack of insight and/or humbleness on her behalf, when she insisted to execute the build the way it looked on the plans. She created some buildings that were unusable and unlivable, which defies the profession of an Architect. I'm very pleased to know that Dr Peterson has a positive stance towards the UAE and I must say I liked his excellency Saeed Al Nazari he came accross as a very gentle and kind person. All the best for your communal endeavours.

Great to hear this conversation, but I wonder if they would've been able to achieve this without all that petrol money.... when you have a tiny country while supplying the rest of the world with the energy it needs to function then not too much obstacles on your way if your Royalty has a vision and the money... Dont get me wrong, they are pretty smart and it could be an example, but please note that all of their "Creativity" is outsourced... the best Architects in the world can go there and have the capital and the support, the nest engineers have the capital and the support, their own Engineers, Architects, Doctors all are trained outside of their country... I recall when i was getting my Computer and Electrical degree that a huge majority of the students were Saudi, from UAE, and Kuwait... And I did not go to a Ivy League school, so I can imagine they are sending their students there too... I also recall meeting Muhammed from Kuwait that shared with me that their government was paying for his schooling in USA and not only that they provided him with money for food, housing, and for anything else... Part of a program he said... This cannot be replicate it with a huge country that has a divided population, and where the politicians dont create but rather borrows it to take care of foreign lands... Eventually, this place will restrict mobility or else it will fall because everyone in the damm mother would like to move there... just read the comment in this post with the amounts of people that will surrender their ability to be free to fight your own battles for the security of a Monarchy lol
