A baseline of playfulness gives you good perspective. Even when a situation calls for more seriousness, you can adjust appropriately, but with an eye towards resolution, a return to more joyful equilibrium. If you are always serious, you can't exactly "return" to a more peaceful state when you don't have to be so serious. The good thing is, it's ultimately enjoyable to lighten up.
