Yo, this is actually insane. We out here thinkin we're the bosses of the planet but then you see a facility like this and relize how fragile everything really is. One big storm and the whole ground just turns into suop. It's wild that we gotta engineer our way out of a mess we basically made ourselves with the climate stuff. Nature don't care about your plans, man. If we don't start respectin' the land, the land is gonna take it back. Deadass.

While it is a common observation that wet soil is mud and therefore slippery, there are several scenarios where water does not make soil slipperier, or actually makes it less slippery: Hydrophobic Soil: When soil becomes extremely dry, particularly in hot weather or with potting mixes, it can become hydrophobic. In this state, the soil particles are coated with waxy organic compounds that repel water, causing water to pool on top or run off rather than creating a slippery, mixed layer. Rapid Absorption/Dry Surface: If the soil is very dry and sandy, it can absorb water instantly, leaving the surface dry and porous, maintaining its traction rather than turning into slick mud. Surface Tension & Cohesion: When only a few drops of water are present (e.g., damp dust), the cohesion of the water molecules can actually increase friction, acting more as an adhesive that makes the surface stickier, rather than a lubricant that makes it slick. When Water DOES Make Soil Slippery: Clay Soils: Soils high in clay hold water on the surface and become very slick because the clay particles are tiny, smooth, and can easily slide past each other when wet. Saturated Soil (Mud): When water fully saturates the soil and fills all the air pockets, it acts as a lubricant, reducing friction.

10:48 so its a lubricant. And before anyone goes "no he just said its an anti lubricant" ive been having this argument for years now. A lubricant like oil works by getting between things you want to lubricate and keeping those thing separated, JUST LIKE WATER DOES! Granted its not a very good lubricant, but i bet if you rained 300 mm or WD40 on a hillside the same thing will happen!

Trees on a slope give a historical record of landslide if a tree is 30 years old and is growing straight the land has never slipped in that time. If the tree has bends as it than the slope has changed over time forcing the tree to adjust back to straight.
