When Water DOES Make Soil Slippery: Clay Soils: Soils high in clay hold water on the surface and become very slick because the clay particles are tiny, smooth, and can easily slide past each other when wet. A lubricant like oil works by getting between things you want to lubricate and keeping those thing separated, JUST LIKE WATER DOES!
