I have MX 23.5, "Libretto," based on Debian "Bookworm." "Libretto" is the text of what is sung in an opera, "lib" having the same meaning it has in "library." The MX here is "Wildflower," based on "Bullseye"....So the correlation in my case is probably just a coincidence...or maybe, not...

Checking out MX Linux KDE version on my laptop on which a lot of Linux versions do not find all my hardware. This found everything on the system. Runs fast on my 2009 Acer 5920 Intel Core Duo with 4 gig. Love the options and control I see on the system. Running Linux LMDE 6 on my dual boot desktop which I like as well. Looks like I may be switching up to the MX Linux soon. I've tried AV MX Linux on my laptop but hate the UI. It was fast so I thought I'd try MX Linux. I'm new to Linux as being a daily driver, so as a creator I want one that finds my hardware. I have an Avid Eleven Rack for audio and have had no lick on using it with Linux yet. I may have to use Wine for that.

MX Linux... deceived. Terrible installer experience for the latest, had to download 21 Wild Flowers for the installer to let me install Grub. The user experience is really bad, clicking using the touchpad is quite hard after experiencing really smooth behavior with PopOS. I think I have to be more cautious with expectations. Looking at Fedora 38 now, have distro hopped from Zorin, MX, back to PopOS. I don´t mind since nowadays, downloads take a few minutes and creating the USB bootable device is easy as hell. Did this channel have a Fedora review? Looking for it.

The USB installer got stuck at 44% while watching this video 🤣, ain't that a blast. Is the option to install directly instead of waiting for MX to load and then install? The installer also didn't show me the option to install GRUB unless I hit Abort and then for some reason it showed up. Another difference is that my installer checked the media before showing the installer options, and that was always successful even though later steps failed.

As good as the mx snapshot functionality may be i find it rather impractical depending on the size of your installed apps etc and can be very time consuming to restore a snapshot...I always find it much quicker to simply reinstall the operating system..i copy my firefox profile and also the usr/share/themes and icons folders and i can pretty much get back to where i was sooner.

MX21 is a great distro for desktop and runs very well also on the older gizmos. I have this running on a compact HP laptop with a duo core Celeron CPU and just 4 gigs of ram. The versatility is VERY important as many of us are now enjoying that new economy and its 20-23% unemployment and 15% real level of inflation these days. Not an affordable option to now just toss PC's because they cannot run Windows11 !!

Perhaps I risk wearing out my welcome but please forgive what should be a final inquiry. I had the idea of putting my new SSD into an old laptop that I now run linux on. It is so easy to open and remove the SSD that's in there. If I do that and install the MX-21 distro to it from the USB installation stick drive I've made, can I then take the SSD back out of the laptop and put it into the USB adaptor I bought with it and now be able to boot MX-21 linux to my more powerful desktop machine via USB? I hoping it will not somehow think it's still joined to the laptop and the settings will be all messed up ie graphics, memory , etc. Other wise I will have to tackle uncasing my huge Dell desktop machine cables and all, yuck. Thanks.

When installing can it work to install to an external SSD plugged into an different USB port ? Meaning an install from the USB stick to a USB drive. Or even setting up the install program onto the USB SSD and installing it TO that same SSD? Finally, will it run efficiently from a USB connected SSD? I could then set my BIOS to boot from USB when connected otherwise it will go ahead and boot to Windows on the internal drive. This is my hope at least. Thank you for a most informative and entertaining video. You do a great job in a most "British" way. I'm a Kentucky American.

MX is running great on my 14 year old Core2 Duo system (typing this comment from there). Ran out of the box without any tweaks on the Legacy MBR system dual booted with Windows 7 (I wanted a Linux OS for safe internet browsing and would use 7 only offline for games), installed old 470.xx drivers for GTX 970 instead of newer (and not necessarily greater for old hardware), has recognized old G31 motherboard audio and network, and takes about 650 megs out of 4 GB RAM by itself. Till now with Firefox and 5-7 tabs has not risen above 70% of RAM usage. The team behind this distro seem to actually test what they put out, unlike several other popular Linux distros which did not work out of the box on this system. It is commendable how this distro has been #1 for so long and at the same time supporting a wide spectrum of hardware. So many tweaks specific to MX bring out the passion the team has for their work. 👍

MX is pretty much the BEST linux distro right now-- has been for a while. - It's LIGHT weight to be so powerful- had useful tools for recovery of mucked up systems- and is totally customizable... I've had LOTS of distros the last 4 years or so-- and always come back to MX.. Right now I'm running SPARKY-- it's simple- very lean- fast and dependable (debian based too- and kde) but I keep MX around for back up and use it for serious stuff!!!!

I have been using Linux from around 2006 now and passed through the Ubuntu's to the Arch's. The latter will always fail, after some time had passed, when updates break them. I defaulted to Mint Cinnamon as everything always just works, never a nasty surprise and I can get my work done. I am not a Linux hobbyist like so many- there is life beyond computers. I must say, that my current 2007 Acer Travelmate 6410 with a retarded Celeron CPU with 2 cores and just 2GB RAM, works rather well after I installed MX Xfce 32-bit, as the laptop is too old for 64-bit. I can do office work, manage email and Whatsapp, that's what I need it to do. It updates automatically and never failed me. Someone else is using my much newer i7-QM with 2GB Geforce GPU and 8GB RAM, also 250GB SSD. The Acer laptop here only has a very slow 160GB HDD but it does what it needs to. We even play some basic games on it, such as chess.

I am disappointed MX got away from Synaptic. They seem to be adding a lot of little utilities (or whatever they should be called). I hope they can continue to improve their great product without adding complexity. Although I don't think it is their intent to make MX a beginners distro. Surely the PC is now powerful enough to make a distro easier as well as better. Just my beginner thoughts.

Hey Christopher, I've got a problem with Linux Mint 20.3 that I cannot get a straight answer for. Perhaps you can be of assistance? When I pull up a terminal I type in "sudo su" and type in my password. This logs me on as root. I then type "sudo apt install mintupgrade". I then type in "sudo mintupgrade". I get the prompt to upgrade to Linux Mint 21. I click "OK" and the system does its checks, but it keeps coming back with the error "some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead", and it will not complete the download to upgrade. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to help me find out why this is so and help me correct it. Like I said, I cannot find help anywhere!
