Running Linux LMDE 6 on my dual boot desktop which I like as well. Looks like I may be switching up to the MX Linux soon. I've tried AV MX Linux on my laptop but hate the UI. It was fast so I thought I'd try MX Linux. I'm new to Linux as being a daily driver, so as a creator I want one that finds my hardware. I have an Avid Eleven Rack for audio and have had no lick on using it with Linux yet. Terrible installer experience for the latest, had to download 21 Wild Flowers for the installer to let me install Grub. The user experience is really bad, clicking using the touchpad is quite hard after experiencing really smooth behavior with PopOS. I think I have to be more cautious with expectations. Looking at Fedora 38 now, have distro hopped from Zorin, MX, back to PopOS. I donยดt mind since nowadays, downloads take a few minutes and creating the USB bootable device is easy as hell. Did this channel have a Fedora review? Looking for it.>> <<@bsdslacker says : The USB installer got stuck at 44% while watching this video ๐Ÿคฃ, ain't that a blast. Is the option to install directly instead of waiting for MX to load and then install? I have this running on a compact HP laptop with a duo core Celeron CPU and just 4 gigs of ram. I had the idea of putting my new SSD into an old laptop that I now run linux on. It is so easy to open and remove the SSD that's in there. If I do that and install the MX-21 distro to it from the USB installation stick drive I've made, can I then take the SSD back out of the laptop and put it into the USB adaptor I bought with it and now be able to boot MX-21 linux to my more powerful desktop machine via USB? I hoping it will not somehow think it's still joined to the laptop and the settings will be all messed up ie graphics, memory , etc. Other wise I will have to tackle uncasing my huge Dell desktop machine cables and all, yuck. Thanks.>> <<@HaveFaithInGod says : When installing can it work to install to an external SSD plugged into an different USB port ? Meaning an install from the USB stick to a USB drive. Or even setting up the install program onto the USB SSD and installing it TO that same SSD? Finally, will it run efficiently from a USB connected SSD? I could then set my BIOS to boot from USB when connected otherwise it will go ahead and boot to Windows on the internal drive. This is my hope at least. Ran out of the box without any tweaks on the Legacy MBR system dual booted with Windows 7 (I wanted a Linux OS for safe internet browsing and would use 7 only offline for games), installed old 470.xx drivers for GTX 970 instead of newer (and not necessarily greater for old hardware), has recognized old G31 motherboard audio and network, and takes about 650 megs out of 4 GB RAM by itself. Till now with Firefox and 5-7 tabs has not risen above 70% of RAM usage. The team behind this distro seem to actually test what they put out, unlike several other popular Linux distros which did not work out of the box on this system. It is commendable how this distro has been #1 for so long and at the same time supporting a wide spectrum of hardware. So many tweaks specific to MX bring out the passion the team has for their work. ๐Ÿ‘>> <<@davidwayne9982 says : MX works great-- it's so simple even an OLD (66) FAT ONE EYED HILLBILLY (LIKE ME) CAN USE IT!!! As I have unfortunately contracted the dreaded COVID virus right before Christmas, I have been resting and trying to recover.. So I came across your video on MX Linux. Two things of interest on MX Linux. Some of the team members were apart of MEPIS, a very old distro' and group that I remember going WAY back in the day. The very awesome thing is, after I saw your video and then found out more about this the MX Linux Dev team, I even more interested as they have a 32 bit version of MX Linux with Fluxbox as the GUI. Fluxbox is also a lighter "Windows Manager" from many years back. I was able to install this MX Linux version on a very old laptop that had a 32bit CPU and a problematic video card and it installed quickly I'm using it right now. It uses Debian 11 for it repositories, and so far on this old laptop it's been really wonderful. I do like Linux Mint and also plain Debian as well but the MX Linux dev team put together a really fine distro'. Probably the last thing to add (as I know I'm rambling a bit) is it really refreshing to see a Dev' group that wants to support 32 bit CPU architecture.. there is a lot of system still out there and being able to repurpose old systems like this laptop is just plain excellent on many levels. Happy New Year, cheers. - MrTom>> <<@cantdance3077 says : Got a Brother printer for Christmas and I was having issues on Arch and Manjaro getting it to work. The latter will always fail, after some time had passed, when updates break them. I defaulted to Mint Cinnamon as everything always just works, never a nasty surprise and I can get my work done. I am not a Linux hobbyist like so many- there is life beyond computers. I must say, that my current 2007 Acer Travelmate 6410 with a retarded Celeron CPU with 2 cores and just 2GB RAM, works rather well after I installed MX Xfce 32-bit, as the laptop is too old for 64-bit. I can do office work, manage email and Whatsapp, that's what I need it to do. It updates automatically and never failed me. Someone else is using my much newer i7-QM with 2GB Geforce GPU and 8GB RAM, also 250GB SSD. The Acer laptop here only has a very slow 160GB HDD but it does what it needs to. I get the prompt to upgrade to Linux Mint 21. However I can't really say I liked this distribution, I see all these preinstalled tools as "bloatwares", it's based on Debian which is a LTS distro (which is fine for servers), and I never really liked KDE and XFCE too (and I hate fluxbox). But honestly I'm just not the target of this distribution. I can see why it's in the first position on distrowatch, it's really beginner friendly, and all those "bloatware tools" can actually be very useful :)>> <<@AJ-po6up says : As always your videos are so relaxing and informative and the best part is that I always learn something new, I'm glad you created this channel you've been doing a great service for the community and for Linux, Chris!>> <<@phuchu says : I had problems with MX Linux in the past.
