Iām interested in their focus on paying attention. Jordan sees Interest as something that should be paid attention to in the present moment, which will lead to your destiny. Sam sees paying attention as beginning anew into the present moment to become mindful of the sacredness that is clouded by memory. Has there been any general rule or protocol on how paying attention should be navigated? Should I try to be in the moment at all times? How do you balance this with thought?

in the distinctions toward the end when we were trying to parse apart the subjective/objective orientation toward religious text and how best to achieve solid ground with regard to man's estimations of the sacred, two nested ideas came to mind -- first, Jung's feeling function seems to provide a unique bridge between the purely rational and intuition (at least as i have it worked out) -- the feeling function is interesting in that it arrives at value not from a purely rational approach, but also not from a place of emotion or any imposed complex -- rather, it seems to have one leg in the rational and one leg in the space beneath the rational, yet without losing the cold-calculation of rationality which science minded folks seem to fancy. Second, the realm beneath the rational is quite real, whether we call it the UnConscious or the Irrational; this seems to be a space Jordan very much celebrates and Sam clearly recognizes and shows no shortage of interest in. I see the challenge being that the truths contained within this space trend, as a rule, toward paradox, and thus require subtler tools than logic, pure rationality, and cold calculation in order to be extracted, much less understood. Esoteric truths, being more yin in nature, don't bend to logic's markedly stiff approach.

A man traveling, searching, exoring a world he doesn't recognize anymore while having conversations with his litte AI friend through a bci. After a lot of pages of writhing by hand I realised it was about me.. My quest, spine tingling moment but it is nice to finally have an intelligent inner voice and dialogue. . The story continues..

Sam Harris finds himself shouting into the wind - I fully empathise. Turn the observation on its head. Take the most backward, violent, misogynistic & hypocritical* regimes in the World - in terms of egregiousness & volume of influence - & track back to which book it all stems from. Clue - it's not Shakespeare or the Dao. (* 'Photography is forbidden for everyone!!' Reality: man standing posed next to his rifle for a portrait. Or: alcohol is forbidden!! Reality: ready drinking of the stuff in places while outside, women are covered up & banned from education & driving)

When it comes to intelligence on a real comprehensive level, very few people excel when tested on IQ, etc... most people, on average, score rather low. A 65 is a passing score in public education. It is the average score among most people.. it takes a level of intelligence to reach a level of conciousness and understanding. What concerns me most is how "intelligent" artificial intelligence will ultimately be, if it gets most of its knowledge from the average person consuming things on the internet.. if we are honest with ourselves, then we can agree that most comments made by viewers on most of these podcasts is complete nonsensical jibberish.. It is not possible to hold even a basic elementary conversation with most consumers of the information they are viewing.. AI will be flawed if it is learning jibberish from the average person. And the average person far outnumbers intelligent people... This could get real bad. Intelligence is no longer valued. Decisions will be made on a mob rule mentality. Elections are conducted through mob rule.. And look where the mob gets us every time they vote.. The average intelligence person will not vote for a man like RFK jr because the average person does not value the intelligence of RFK jr. So they will vote for someone more in line with their own limited intelligence, Trump or Biden fits that bill. We see it all the time.

I'm grateful for these discussions because I particularly see these discussions as exchanges that we are all hungry for and that we sometimes find difficult to individually articulate ourselves.. Sort of like a songwriter might do for those of us who can't quite express what we're feeling.. I can only wish and pray that this type of exploratory discussion where history, science, philosophy and search into truth can branch out into the political realm. We need to explore our cultures, their commonality and differences, the history and science as a means of understanding behavior and reason so that we can all responsibly arrive at healthier world decisions. I believe we need to apply our love for life to the very perspectives that separate us so that we might redirect ourselves into a common place of interest and balance because in the end we really all just want to experience fairness, a sense of union and respect for each other. We shouldn't have to resort to war to find this. +E

Wait, how is that a solution to the is-ought problem? I agree that we can scientifically reason about our suffering, but why should we value the peaks and not the valleys? Sam just says forget about morality and all that, and takes a subjective standpoint, essentially making the value of wellbeing his axiom. That is not a solution nor does it collapse the problem in any way! Nobody disagrees that humans typically value wellbeing because suffering sucks. But that is exactly a subjective standard. Which is fine btw. No clue why morality needs to be objective. We already agree that science furthers our understanding of suffering and wellbeing, and we can democratically improve our societies.
