One option would be a documentary angle, and a lot of your objectives and points come from capturing the events that go on while getting caught up in them yourself. Another more modern take would be playing off the kind of dangerous angle that some livestreamers and other social media personalities take of deliberately seeking out these warzones and broadcasting it as a way to gain mass viewers and the like. There's definitely real world issues going on with this happening (I'd definitely avoid setting it anywhere near Afghanistan), so it'd take a lot of work to get right without coming off as too trivialized, but that's the direction I'd like to see.
