I listened to Rob's book while on vacation last week. I found myself pausing the book frequently to share with my wife the awful circumstances of Rob's childhood. And when she asked why I was listening to such a sad story, I replied that it was a story of overcoming adversity. His is the real life Rocky story, and it opened my eyes to foster care, which is a topic that never entered my mind before.

1:12:42 eliminating ONLY class as an "oppressed" identity category. Ok. Interesting that this particular "reason" that the "disappointed Marxists" in the 60s and 70s identified upward mobility as the reason Marxism failed to take hold in the West. Question now is the elimination of this category from the Woke Pantheon of Neo-Pagan Gods tactical or strategic?

Very interesting. I'm definitely one of those people who would prefer society to have it's strong leaders. Leaders are the only thing that can keep things in line and prevent chaos from ensuing around us. Not to say I don't do my part in maintaining structure and order, I just know myself well enough that I wouldn't have the patience to carry the torch like some other people do. I also enjoy my privacy, so I don't necessarily need that kind of attention in my life to be "popular." Which I believe is something that is much needed to be an actual leader these days. People behave very similar to sheep, it's a lot easier to just follow the herd than to identify the wolf. The problem with that now is that we have many wolves that like to hide in the sheep's clothing. We need more actual wolves that are keen enough to identify those who are fake and remove them from the herd. Too many sheep have been getting slaughtered.

Yes, reading really is so important and is accessible to almost everyone. My brother is intellectually disabled from a brain injury during birth, but he reads very well. Now, his IQ is in the 70s, which is better than some other ID people, Iām not saying EVERYONE can read. But most can. Lots of video games from the 90s and 2000s didnāt have voice acting and had quick moving text boxes, and that was an excellent tool in his reading practice.

Hearing him say heād trade every educational accolade heās earned in exchange for a stable, warm family environmentā¦like a punch to the gut. I donāt want to āhigh five the drowning personā whoās already in a fragmented family situationāif you arenāt or canāt raise your children in a stable, married two parent situation anymore for whatever reason, it is what it is and you have to do the best with what youāve got right now. But hearing his story really encourages me to think the single greatest gift we can give our children is birth mom and birth dad, married, in a functional, safe, respectful relationship. Wealth and opportunities are nice; but thatās the lifeline. Thatās the foundation. Again, not to dunk on people who arenāt in that situation or can no longer be in it; as I said earlier, wherever youāre at, whateverās happened in the past, all you can do is the right think right now with what youāve got. But for future generations, yeahā¦maybe we should be casting vision for our kids that a good marriage is unapologetically the ideal, and if we find someone, anyone, who is living out a good example of what that looks likeāget them in our kids lives so they can see it.
