They are Ukranian forces who seem to be looking for Sudanese gold to continue financing their war against Russia, as well as to fight the Wagner Group. This could be intended as a US/Ukrainian proxy war in Sudan that could take over a country already weakened by internal conflict, and possibly try to establish an internal military base with which to attack and control the continent. Remember, the Ukranian army is very Nazi orianted. Russia is concenred enough about this region to be sending warships to the Red Sea.
