That's actually GREAT NEWS. President Gnassingbe and his 'parliament' will be overthrown within the next year. They should be jailed in solitary confinement until Togo's stolen assets are recovered and then expelled from Togo, forever. They can go to France and drive cabs for their 'masters.' Those who replace the 'Gnassingbe dictatorship' will join the "Alliance of Sahel States."

Every president must only rule for one term, to avoid him becoming like a monarch. Presidency must be circulated among tribes. Some presidential powers must be reduced such as controlling the army, the intelligence and the poilce. The army, secret services and police must be controlled by citizens through the judiciary. The army people positions must also be circulated among tribes and the army people must partly live in barracks and parltly live among communities as much as possible so that they may experience whatever the communities are experiencing, yes the army and police must be part of communities.

Your explanation of a parliamentary system isnāt accurate and kind of misinforming your audience. Rather, Power resides with the prime minister who is also the parliamentarian whose party has the most popular vote. Itās a tested and working system practiced in Canada, UK, Singapore and many other successful countries. Itās even better as ministers must be parliamentarians who won elections in their respective areas they are representing and not appointed stooges as practised in the presidential system. The president is a ceremonial head with no executive powers. Itās not even important who becomes the prime minister or president as the party ensures guard rails are set in place to improve the lives of ordinary citizens and if the prime minister isnāt meeting his objectives he can be voted out. We Africans should resist being so obsessed with who is in power and rather focus on improving the lives of the ordinary citizen like captain Ibrahim Traore is doing.

Sylvanus Olympio, the first president of the Republic of Togo, a tiny country in west Africa, found a middle ground solution with the French. Ā He didnāt want his country to continue to be a french dominion, therefore he refused to sign the colonisation continuation pact De GauleĀ proposed, but agree to pay an annual debt to France for the so called benefits Togo got from french colonization. It was the only conditions for the French not to destroy the country before leaving.Ā However, the amount estimated by France was so big that the reimbursement of the so called ācolonial debtā was close to 40% of the country budget in 1963. The financial situation of the newly independent Togo was very unstable, so in order to get out the situation, Olympio decided to get out the french colonial money FCFA (the franc for french african colonies), and issue the country own currency. On January 13, 1963, three days after he started printing his country own currency, a squadĀ of illiterate soldiers backed by France killed the first elected president of newly independent Africa.Ā Olympio was killedĀ by an ex French Foreign LegionnaireĀ army sergeant calledĀ Etienne GnassingbeĀ who supposedly received a bounty of $612 from the local French embassy for the hit man job. OlympioāsĀ dream was to build an independent and self-sufficient and self-reliant country. But the French didnāt like the idea.

In the British Westminster system, the Prime Minister isn't directly elected. It's the system that obtains in the majority of the British Commonwealth where the Head of State is the unelected Monarchy. Parliament is directly elected and the parliamentarians select the one from amongst them who enjoy their support as Prime Minister.

This is to protect the colonizers. They are afraid of radical revolutionary leaders from among the people to get in power that will change their system. Just like Senegal, they dont want anymore revolutionary into office because of the change of puppets.
