I live in Ontario and work in retail, and the blockage that they caused in Ottawa did huge damage to my place of work. They protested "freedom", and while of course if one feels as though their rights are being infringed upon they have a duty as a free citizen to stand up for it, but I also think much of their conclusions came from misinformation and blind hatred of an admittedly fragile government. The fact that people have to argue about whether or not to get a vaccine for a pandemic that has killed millions of people and crippled the world's economy is baffling to me. I think that not getting the vaccine (provided there are no allergies/severe health concerns) simply because they don't want to be told what to do is backwards and childish. People need to look to the greater good and realize that personal sacrifices need to be made in order to solve larger problems. This is something that JP absolutely advocates for (I know because he taught me that). It's not that I disagree with their methods but more the content of their concerns. The protestors were not non-violent, and typically just harassed regular citizens and businesses. Sure - I'm proud as a whole that it never devolved into something truely terrible... but I don't think that should ever happen. On top of that - I wonder why we should listen to the demands of truckers on how to handle healthcare, rather than doctors and experts.>>
