Hybrids are a temporary creation of marketeers in the auto industry who want to keep a dying industry alive--especially Japanese auto makers like Toyota. Keep your eye on the new low cost BEV's, and when the next generation of batteries comes along it will be the end of both straight gas cars, and hybrids. Can't come soon enough, IMO. IMO, most modern hybrids actually use the electrics primarily to improve acceleration, sorta like the McLaren. They are just efficient gas cars with a bit better acceleration. Even the plug-in hybrids, because many people stop plugging them in after a while. To me, they make no sense. How many hybrid airplanes have both reciprocating engines and jets. (actually there was one--a giant bomber in the early jet era) How many locomotives have both diesels and steam? Why are there no hybrid gas-electric light airplanes?
