You're going to have a career now in something, marry at 35 and then have your 2 children and that was your life. Suffice to say, I didn't follow this path eventually, and I think I am happier for it. I think many women are not even so much influenced by feminism rather than what their environment expects of them which often creates a certain collusion in them between their own desires and what they're supposed to represent. Maybe what is expected of them is really the opposite of the "heroic journey" that you sometimes mention. So couldn't there be a similar "heroic" ethos for both men and women (without necessarily regarding them as diametrically opposite) alike that helps them escape this prescribed role that they're supposed to fulfil?
