Hi there I writte you from Argentina. I love your videos. I was wondering if I could send you a picture of and old laptop I saw on a TV show from the 90's so you can do a review (if you haven't already about it). What intrigues me is the fact it has something like a pointer device but it is on aside of the screen.

The CMOS battery on my EE pc is flat as well so it goes through this palaver to boot as well. Shame they are not simpler to replace. Also does a flat CMOS battery affect the main battery life as it does not seem to be lasting as long?

This is super old school...and very neat I must say. Windows 7 was the last OS to feature this classic design, everything that came after sucked. The first laptop I'd ever seen was one of those Compaq presario thingies back in 2000, I always thought it had a very slim contemporary design for its time.

Loved this... 1999 laptop... The days of rushing out to buy the latest mag with the disk on to get some new software.. (I've still got Thumbs+ from those disks still running now) The squawking modem.... Home websites instead of comercial pop ups everywhere.. Knowing what 'Explorer' was for.. On the superfast 56k surfing all night with Voyager, SG1 and LEXX on the telly..

I still have a Toshiba Satellite Pro sitting to the right of me. This badboy was so hot it literally warped the backplate of its on keyboard, eventually forcing pressure on some of the arrow keys that they would get typed at the slightest nudge. I had to disable them in Autohotkey and remap them to Win + IJKL. 30GB HDD it had. But that also destroyed itself via head smashing in to the drive platter. I had zero luck with that laptop. Probably the most expensive disaster I've ever bought, 2nd to the Hudl 2 which didn't even charge half of the time and lied about that fact! Literally showed that it was charging and it wasn't doing it to charge. Exact same system I used with another tablet fine. Just how? How do you manage that? That's patently stupid.

I love those old computers. It is a shame what Windows has become. I gave up on Windows back in the Vista days and bought a Mac. Now I find myself more frustrated with Apple as they seem to have adopted the Windows philosophy of forcing me to update my machine every time I turn it on. Why donβt they just focus on an operating system that is rock solid?

Windows 98 and AOL Instant Messenger reminds me of 2 hourly blue screens with 30% chance of restart and having to cancel Scandisk on my old family computer from last year of high school until I got my own computer which come with Windows XP. If you need another Retro Laptop for review, I could send you my Dell D600, still is in mint condition. Still works, still has it's original battery, hard drive and disc drive. I pulled it out of mothballs last year and installed a lightweight Linux distro on it, and it hums along like the day I first got it. The badboy still has the factory Windows sticker with key on the bottom of it. I know you can nab them off of Fleabay for dirt cheap, but it was my first laptop and it has some good memories.

I would have loved to had a 1620CDS way back then. And Windows 95, 89, 2000, XP and 7 forever with Classic user customizable GUI. My more recent Toshiba Satellite is flimsy junk, the hinges fell apart. Windows 8 and following is a brutal assault against personalized computer usability. Rushing to the bottom.... And oh yes, the welcoming buzz of the floppy drive when booting up!

I had one of these in 2001-2004. I had to fly from Toronto to Thunder Bay (Canada) to meet with a client for 4 days. On the way to the airport I stopped for gas before parking my car. When I went to pay for my gas someone swiped my laptop out of my car. I flew to Thunder Bay and as soon as I got there I contacted my company, told them my story and they told me to go buy a new computer. I went to the best computer shop in Thunder Bay and bought the best laptop they had and it was this exact unit. So much for small town tech. I had to use this for 3 years before my employer agreed to replace it. I hated that machine. It just sucked! I would not event want one for nostalgic reasons.
