Climate change puts more heat in the oceans, and that will produce more unstable and violent weather, that is not a good thing for aviation anyway. Curiously, high flying planes producing contrails may help the atmosphere cool a little bit, a benefit that may be partially lost if sustainable fuels that burn more clean, would be used in the future. I think Mentour has a video about that.

<<@Technichian462
says :
The reason air travel seems to be more turbulent lately is because of a change to save some fuel. The glide slope has been increased, dramatically. Instead of staying at altitude for most of the trip, the glide slop will start as soon as possible. Gliding as much as possible, putting the aircraft in much more turbulent air.

Thanks for yet another super interesting video! Having worked with developing mobile phone base stations, I've always been at a complete loss as to how these ideas about mobile devices being a threat to airplane safety came about, as it made absolutely no sense to me. I've admittedly not looked that hard, but none of these restrictions were ever backed up with any facts. It's a bit scary that the reason for this is that there have been no proper research - at all. Let's just hope that we don't get a new Covid-19 outbreak if 5G is allowed on planes 😁

Being that a plane falls out of the sky if you fly too slowly, does flying higher just make the plane faster until it reaches the same drag as lower down. So at sea level you might only reach 250 mph, but at 30,000 feet you reach 650 mph but the drag is the same? I suppose though even if that were the case, a thrust engine is better impedance matched at higher speed. Blasting out hot gas at 700 mph to make a plane go 30 mph is inefficient. The physical (not thermal) power of the engine is thrust x thrust velocity. A human powered helicopter and a jetpack make about the same thrust - your bodyweight + equipment weight. The gas coming out the jetpack is much faster and a jetpack is very fuel thirsty compared to the human powered helicopter that slowly rotates 4 giant rotors powered by your legs. The air velocity is very low so it's really easy to create that much force over a wide area. You transfer more power from your engine when you are a bit below the exhaust gas speed.

now i dont feel like such a shitheel for farting continuously on long haul flights - it's the air pressure's fault. apparently when planes land and the ground staff open the door they stand well back cos the air stinks so bad. stale and farty. you just dont notice it as a passenger but it's nasty AF

<<@sugarpolecat4781

I remember there was this plane racing game, where you flew faster closer to the ground, and I was like - "this is stupid". But it worked for the game, since there are more dangers near the ground, so it was a risk/reward kind of thing, but already as a kid I knew this is not how that works (I mean we did have physics in elementary school so). Anyway, fantastic video! there is some stuff that I didn't know about planes so it's always amazing to learn something!

The reason Europe can allow cell phone usage in flights is because European phones operate on a different range in the band, a little lower than US cell phones. The upper band of US phones borders the band of avionics, mostly the altimeter, which could cause problems. There is enough wiggle room for European phone, but not US phones.

at 3:39 air pressure doesnt fall off faster at altitude than density because of the air above you, its because air is compressible, temperature and the effects of gravity being stronger closer to the surface of the earth.. air pushes on all sides equally becaues it's free to flow, so it doesnt matter how much there is above you, in that sense, it really matters how much is around you, how much gravity is acting on it and it's temperature. the lines not matching up in your video i would assume is mostly from temperature. but may be some of the other factors aswell. temperature on a gas doesnt change linearly with pressure and density. look at "Ideal Gas Law" the relationship to temperature - pressure and density.

As someone who enjoys toying with flat Earthers ... I feel like the main misconception regarding plane flight is that they have to "turn down" in order to remain close to the Earth's surface. Yes, flat Earthers think that a plane will fly off into space unless the pilots "turn down."
