11:30 "Experience over the past few years indicates that security and other basic updates will be received just fine; however, there will be no feature updates to the next version of Windows 11. And so, to maintain security updates, a reinstall roughly once a year may be required." I'm misunderstanding something here. If the security updates come through, why would an annual reinstall be required to maintain security updates?

Screw microsoft for wanting to force millions of good computers into the garbage. It's criminal. I built 2 PC's 15 years ago and upgraded them over the years so that they still far exceed all the Win11 requirements except for TPM. I hope all the Win10 users switch to a non-Windows platform, making Windows' share of the OS market plummet since Win10 users still outnumber Win11 users 2:1. Let's see how MS likes that.

The details may be new but something like this has been happening for years. My pattern is to use Linux on my older backup computers and run preinstalled windows on a new computer when/if I purchase it. Things may change in future years now that I am retired and no longer have to support windows computers at my old job. Historically my old computers lacked minimum requirements for windows upgrades but Linux offered endless options for desktop environments. I would typically choose a desktop environment that was light on system requirements. More recently even my older computers have enough resources to run the default environment that comes with Ubuntu.

I move files to the machine on a 256Kb USB stick, all works OK. Adobe5 however does not not like some of the newer files. Still I bough the Compaq in 1998. Guess I am the sort of Guy that has a model T Ford in the garage!

After being a windows user for over 30 years, I'm dumping Microsoft for good. They promised that Windows 10 would be the last version and would be updated forever. You would think after all these years all exploits in Windows 10 would be known and patched. If you can't afford to buy a new computer to upgrade to windows 11, users won't pay Microsoft for extended support and will just run Windows 10 un-patched. I have seen people still running Windows XP.

For most home users Linux would be just fine only requiring a bit of relearning where stuff is and what App to use. Google Docs is an excellent word processor and Google Sheets is a great spreadsheet, both are mostly compatible with Office and work on any OS. I've been using Linux Mint for years and rarely have an issue that requires Windoze. I use the Google apps to run my business, Shotcut to edit videos and Thunderbird for email however probably 98% of the time I'm using a browser which as already mentioned works on any OS.

I am very comfortable with Linux and Unix and have Linux running on a server and and Raspberry Pis. I will probably go to Ubuntu. I am also comfortable with Libre Office. When I move I will cancel my office 365 account and go completely to Linux and opensource applications. I gave up on Apple because they orphaned my running hardware. I am not a fan of closed systems.
