The only explanation is to assume that people would prefer them to Trump/Vance even though hating all candidates. Harris ticket didn’t need to be liked, just loathed less than the Trump ticket. The election was seen as a guaranteed win and the opportunity to slip in a candidate no one would vote for ( and hadn’t, even in primaries), and, I assume, would then reliably do what she was told by the hidden hands controlling her president y. Well, surprise! The voters loathed Harris more than Trump. Predictably given the building frustrations of the Biden era, and the farce of senile Biden seeking a 2nd term. The dems looked for a replacement who was as compliant as a senile 80 yo. And found one, and appointed her VP and then prez candidate without a party vote.
