This was a pretty terrible review, yeah it was 2 years ago but damn the amount of sheer effort Valve went through to design this thing nevermind proton DB, Steam OS, compatiblity and pricing is nuts and you mentioned basically the bare minimum.

1:35 You're kind of undermining valves other work with different gaming hardware obviously some of all companies hardware is gonna be bad but Valve has been very successful with The Steam Deck and Virtual Reality they seem to shine way brighter on new technology that they can fiddle with instead of technology that has already existed for many many years that shows especially with both the Valve Index them making and releasing it at the height of the Virtual Reality gaming scene and that's the same thing they're doing with the Steam Deck it's sort of brand new hardware. Handheld gaming has existed for a long time with stuff like the PSP, PS Vita, Game & Watch, DS, and many more but those were always very limited on what they could do same with the Nintendo Switch it was a lot better hardware compared to their older stuff and could run more demanding games a lot easier but there was always something that it couldn't do the Steam Decks hardware makes it a portable gaming pc basically it's brand new hardware for a handheld gaming device and it's honestly pretty amazing. Obviously I'm making this comment a year later and we can all see how successful the Steam Deck is now but I just wanted to comment on that cause it kind of just downplays Valves other work and as I said before Valve is heavily based on new tech and innovation I get that other tech companies also try to work on stuff like that but they don't do it at the certain rate that Valve does it they do it for money instead of consumer satisfaction you can notice that with Nintendo Specifically seeing as how the Original switch came out almost 7 years ago and hasn't had a price drop from the $300 since and the fact that they've even come out with a brand new Switch OLED but decided not to fix the joycon drift because "It doesn't mess with demand."

a lot of unverified games have controller settings mapped out in the steam community section. OSRS for example has fully mapped settings for a mouse and keyboard game.

Your video is incomplete and a bad review. No mention of capacitive analog or gyro when mentioning controls/inputs. Slating Valve as 'bad at hardware', framing each issue as discontinue = failure. In truth - Controller haptic lawsuit, Link superseded by software by valve and 'Steam Consoles' of which the failures could be attributed to other manufacturers (Steam machines were actually successful as a start for SteamOS and a boost for Linux community to develop). Also no mention of repairability. No mention of duel booting windows to play the games Linux can't, you fail to realise/mention its a PC with a console-like OS, installing windows will have varying levels of success with certain programs but its possible and pretty easy if you have touched a computer. You took it for its out of the box experience (which is fine) but failed to mention the customisability, didn't even mention the dock and being able to multimonitor a desk setup. Can't decide if bad reviewer/uninformed or biased Nintendo drone. I am emulating every switch game worth my time and paying Nintendo not one penny.

One year later and this thing still explodes in popularity. One, if not the best console I've ever bought. I got a ps5, series x, switch and a high end gaming pc and they're pretty much collecting dust since I got the deck. It works so good. With the community and a bit of tweaking you will get almost any game to work. There are things like Lutris, Bottles, Herotic Launcher that get things working with almost no affort at all. So much good features like bluetooth headphones (looking at you switch) right out of the box. Valve is constantly updating this thing and it still gets better. Being able to play a lot of my favorite games everywhere I want is so valueable. Not even mention that this thing is an emulation powerhouse. With emudeck you can play almost ever console (even switch) with most of the time better performance than on the original console. So a big win for the deck. Cheers!

The Steam Deck gives me so many Terminator vibes. It reminds me of the device John Connor used in T2 where he hacked the ATM to pull out money before heading to the mall to play arcade games. The Deck also looks like the device John Connor used in Salvation to hack a Moto Terminator to ride it. The Sega Gamegear, which was literally released the year T2 came out, reminds me of Pops in Genisys falling into the vat of liquid metal solution at Cyberdyne systems and coming back out upgraded and when he's upgraded he becomes the fucking Steam Deck.

I am going to wait for the next version but it is an amazing machine. Valve should use 3D V cache with the cpu, infinity cache for memory bandwith and increase the input and output of the storage with increased channel pathway and a custom chip like what Sony for the PS5 SSD.

Don’t waste your money. Very few of the so called verified games actually work. GTA V will not work, GTA IV or RD2 wont either. Unless you’re a computer programmer. You’re paying $500 for a machine to play games your phone can play. Sending mine back. Total junk.
