Those micro HDMI connectors are atrocious. I wouldn't have mind if these Pi's had only one HDMI if it meant the video port would be sturdy. Perhaps I should give the Orange Pi a spin.

The only thing that bothers me about the pi 500 is the need for an adapter to go around that micro hdmi thing when the chassis is massive enough for a full size hdmi port

Its worse, the teardown shows it should have had a nvme! The 500+ with the full keyboard dropped today and it has 16gb DDR4 and 256gb nVme built in and a full keyboard but the price is an eyewatering $200USD/$320AUD

If you are booting an OS from a MicroSD card I would highly recommend using an MicroSD card made for endurance. I personally use a Samsung Pro Endurance 256GB for this reason, even if that card is made for dash cams and security cameras and is slower than the Samsung Pro Ultimate 512GB I use on my Nintendo Switch.

The only problem that makes me still unsatisfied with pi 400 and 500, are lack of storage upgradability, since we know that they can add support SSD M.2 nvme or atleast M.2 Sata 2230 slot and squeeze it inside the mainboard. they can also put 2 USB C 3.1 port in 90° Layout to replace the USB 2.0 port. since that USB A 3.0 Port are backwards compatible with usb 2.0. To make it more professional.

Why dose someone notcdesign a keyboard with a built in power supply, that can have a standard rasburry pi slotted into it. With fly leads to take the mini HDMIs to the outside. So that you can just go from a pi 3 to 4 to 5 and slot it into the same keyboard. Without having to be a generation behind all the time buying pi 400/500.

15:36 - yes, late comment , cause I had to watch it again now while being on the verge of buying a new Pi 500 and selling my Pi 400 or not. But you are right about the legend of the letter keys and also I like the colourfull keys a lot. A big step back to see these smaller key legend cause the older you get the harder its get to read those keys. Also Orange PI 800 is making a better impression as everything is included from Mic, Loudspeaker, 3,5 mm jack and VGA . I wonder why Raspberry is not coming up with those components in their line cause all of these make more sense than running with speaker and mic via bluetooth which you have to carry with you. VGA might feel outdated but it is sustainable to have won considering that many of these machines are connected to older monitors. I am not saying that the Orange 800 is the better keyboard computer, but it makes me hesitant to buy a Pi 500 cause too much missing that it would be worth to upgrade the Pi 400 now for tasks that I usually do no have like Video playback. It is rather the low power machine which does everything without the need of an external keyboard and a power hungry monitor use rarely, but in case VNC has issues I instantly want and need a fully fledged running PC incl. Monitor with a cable. Hence I am not willing to spend 40€ or more just for a bit of power gain. 4 GB RAM on a Pi 4 has not been the biggest issue so far even though Home Assistant has hit from time to time the 80% RAM usage mark so I might need a Pi with more RAM but then I wood go for the Pi 5 with 8 GB instead of the Keyboard version right now. I am just scrolling through your video of the past year to see if I have missed something important or like in this case saw that I had it watched already and could not remember the result of your tests.

Thank you for providing a rough benchmark comparison for the M.2 speed. Other reviewers complain that it's missing without going into detail on the impact. I wonder if they left it out because they felt they'd have to provide a M.2 drive rather than just a slot, to keep the system as turnkey as possible.

no built in/working m.2 slot for me means i wont be upgrading from my pi400, its kinda the only real upgrade i wanted to see in the pi500, without m.2 i just dont see the need to upgrade and i hate having "stuff/adapters/enclosures" sticking out of my usb ports when that could have been neatly done internally. Given the pi400 and pi500 are inspired from the Amiga home computers i find it weird they didnt include an m.2 slot as a trapdoor slot option like Amigas used for their ram/accelerators.

This content has given me a great deal to think about. I run an old Dell 7010, with a 1TB hard drive and Linux OS. I had a pi 400 which worked superbly, but gave it to my grandson when he started coding club. I will consider either a pi 500 or orange pi 800 as the notion of a desktop PC running about 4 watts plus screen and saving a massive amount of space is a big selling point. For ordinary use, are the ports that much of an issue? I plug straight into my router and am considering making some you tube content. Being old I ask myself is this going to cause issues????
