Great stuff. Itโs refreshing to see that someone like you still produces videos without jargon, communicated clearly and straight to the point. Also some of your vids did help my boomer parents and some of my relatives with understanding tech terms. I am particularly drawn to your thought process and articulation in each video. Looking forward to more! Who knows what will you use next? i9 or Ryzen 9? Only time will tell :)

While watching this video, I had an idea. Could you create a tutorial on building an energy-efficient Mini-ITX based mini PC? I've noticed a lot of interest in mini PCs on my Reddit feed, including for gaming. People are looking for a PC that is energy-efficient, space-saving, yet still offers decent performance. I'm personally interested in a mini PC that can handle casual local LLM tasks and general productivity work. Edit: Improved the grammar.

I've built a Windows XP PC (Coolmaster case, Gigabyte MoBo, various other bits) and then a Windows 7 PC, which I upgraded to 8:and 10, and used similar hardware. This was about 20 years ago. My Windows PCs had a CD drive which I used to install the OS from genuine MS CDs. How do I get Linux onto the new PC?

I enjoy your build videos but what I like most on your channel are the episodes that give it its name: *Explaining* Computers. I've especially liked your discussion of various RAM architectures and the differences between the interfaces to solid state memory.

I miss the times of green or blue PCB-s inside the cases, where you could clearly see all elements, and color-coded cables. Then came the "dark times" with the ubiquitous "gaming design" ugliness ๐

Well if you can, how about a build which includes easily available parts that are swappable in the future so that the computer is, in one way or another, future-proofed and likely to last the user for at least 10 years. A roomy case is good, and if the build is very generic, it might even be used as a server. To that end, some version of Linux might be best. A processor that can use ECC memory is also nice. The latest WiFi card for WiFi 7 but also swappable when WiFi 8 arrives. Of course since I know little about such builds I may have asked for the impossible. With our tarrifs looming importing these parts may soon become too expensive.

I liked the green-type mini computer (which I firstly watched the EC video), using high-energy efficient processor and other parts that will cut energy costs. SBCs are high-energy efficient computers too, so I want to focus more on "Green Computing", as 2030 carbon neutral will come ahead of this time... P.S. I think more mini-PC building were focused on the future...

Another great video Chris! This in particular brings back a lot of memories for myself as I would religiously follow your PC building guides when I first started learning to repair and build computers. This knowledge I now use everyday, and is second nature to me. That being said, I look forward to your future builds as no one compares in terms of passion, quality and detail.

I can't believe we're still using the PC design from the 60's. AT boards? Card edge connections? Back planes? Wire and plastic power rails? Am I building an Altair? It's the same friggen design. And it's causing problems. Look at GPU's for an example. They have become so massive that their own weight is cracking the PCB. Did we change the design, the card thickness and mounting structure, to accommodate? No, because of the AT standard. Did we change power delivery so connectors won't melt? No because of the AT standard. The standards are old. They need an upgrade. We need better designs.

From my personal perspective, the best bit is that your channel exists. It has been consistently of high value to me. Hi Chris, a nostalgic video which I enjoyed very much. When you consider your future projects, I'd personally get a lot out of a 'budget' build that is powerful enough to be reasonably future proof by anticipating the potential requirements of Windows 12 and even later. I'd prefer it to include a blu-ray reader/writer along with the software necessary to use it as Microsoft no longer have the inbuilt ability to. Have fun!

Chris, have you ever upgraded anything sequentially? Most of the PC users are talking about upgrade ability: but the least are really doing it. Except of doubling the RAM maybe. Some are buying new graphics cards. I left the PC in 2013. I fiddled and diddled lots, especially screwing all the new components together. Since 2013 I use Macs. No fiddling and I upgrade them in the same way. ๐โค

Thankyou so much Chris.
