If you're going to go through a rib cage then you use an arrow if you're going to Simply go through the gut you can use a sharican because no matter how you attack it you can do no more damage than the weight that you send into it even at equal velocity but having a forward heavy Arrow not only means that you're hitting it harder because it's heavier it also means that it's flying straighter because it's heavier up front and if you actually had tapered shafts for your arrows your penetration would be nearly equal
>>
<<@barretharms655
says :
You missed the point altogether the heavier head drags the shaft behind it after you have struck the target because that heavier head does not want to slow down as quickly it holds more energy in it because it is a larger Mass at motion and so it takes more to stop it the single bevel means that it will snap bone faster and be less likely to be diverted put the two together and yes you get a more lethal wound that is more likely to bleed out because it is more so opened up and it has done more damage if it is struck bone if it has not struck bone then it has most likely done more damage simply because it was heavier and required more to stop it. There is also one more point and that is once the initial shock of being launched out of the bow has happened the arrow shaft will quickly lose its word momentum in comparison to the arrowhead because Arrowhead is of a larger Mass and thereby will require more to stop it it may drop sooner but it will travel through the air with less wind resistance due to its weight and because Arrowhead has more mass it will have less Divergent due to wind resistance that is the arrow will fly straighter because it is point heavy.

I'm curious about the velocity loss comparison in say... Approximately 10m increments up to say 40 meters If the bolts looses too much energy from the heavier broadheads... The benefit of cutting area is lost. Thanks for sharing

These large, drilling broadheads might be actually quite practical for hunting animals. As I see it, the animal will bleed out faster, requiring less work afterwards.

just note: the heavier arrows make a bigger arch when loosing them. Thus need to adjust your scope accordingly for the heavier arrow. it is why the 'cooler' arrows are popular amongst hunters as they require less adjustment

Correct me If I am wrong, but I feel like when talking about relatively flat penetrating objects, doubling the thickness of the head would not lead to double the damage assuming the same penetration depth. Since it is cutting material instead of removing, I feel like the circumference of the head at its widest point is what would actually need to be used to determine damage area since the bolt is cutting through flesh instead of removing the flesh in the area. For example, assume somebody was able to make a broadhead that was half as thick but twice as wide as some other broadhead, and when shot it penetrated the exact same depth. By this comparison, the wounds are equal but in my (admittedly uneducated) opinion, the wider bolt would definitely be the one that made the more serious wound.

There are few animals thicker than 47cm, so even the heavier broadhead would have gone all the way through. Cows, some horses, buffaloes, rhinos, hippos and elephants can be thicker, but how often do you get to shoot at them with a crossbow? Most hunters will never shoot anything larger than a moose, so more penetration is not needed. The heavy broadhead is also less likely to break or bend when it hits the bone, so it's more reliable. The higher energy transfer is also useful, it can knock the target down, after which the animal may have a hard time getting up again. This can buy you time enough to reload for a finishing shot.

Quite impressive. But leaves the question how much damage is enough. I mean you can not be more dead then dead. Probably if you are hunting elephants or dinosaurs there might be a use for such overpowered broadheads. Otherwise for deer regular broadheads do well enough and are able to penetrate through an animal and even break ribs. Think such heads would rather lead to people who are not good shots going hunting in the hope that that arrow does enough damage even on a bad hit to get a kill. As other have mentioned would be interesting to see how they fare over distance.

I don't want to get hit by any of those arrowheads. I do wonder about using the big ones on game. If they can penetrate enough to hit organs or arteries the big ones will obviously do massive damage. Ballistic gel is cool, but we need to see meat and bone tested. A whole pig would be a good test animal, or a side of beef. Or you could come hunt deer next fall in the states, and collaborate with Demolition Ranch and others too.

Shot placement accuracy and enough penetration to reach the vitals are far more important than a heavy broadhead gimmick. Although interesting I would bet that they are impractical for hunting purposes unless you enjoy the idea of cutting down the effective range of your bow. But it's still a neat product. Remember evisceration is the name of the game with a broadhead.
